Guide & full description

Complete guide: Eternal Gray 30ml

A neutral medium gray pre-mixed ink, in a 30 ml bottle, produced by Eternal and sold by us as a drawing ink. It solves a problem known to anyone working in monochrome: achieving the same gray tone every time, without manual dilutions that vary from session to session. It is designed as the central point of a tonal scale — from it you can go darker with black or lighter with white — and is aimed at artists who want predictability in black and grey works on paper or other drawing surfaces.

How to use

  1. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the pigment is evenly distributed throughout the contents.
  2. Decant only the necessary amount into a separate container, preferably disposable — never work directly from the bottle and never introduce tools into it.
  3. Use the ink as is for the mid-tone of your work: it is a neutral gray, without warm or cool undertones, so it does not impose a chromatic direction.
  4. If you need a complete tonal scale, prepare multiple containers: pure black, dark gray (gray + black), pure gray from the bottle, light gray (gray + white or diluting solution).
  5. Test the tone on a piece of the same surface you are working on before moving to the final piece.
  6. At the end, discard any remaining ink from the working containers — do not pour it back into the bottle to avoid contaminating the rest of the contents.
  7. Tightly close the cap and store the bottle in a cool place, away from direct sunlight.

Tips from us

  • Note the date of first opening on the label — this way you always know how old the contents are and avoid surprises on long projects.
  • The main advantage over manual black dilution is consistency: each bottle delivers exactly the same shade, so on a project spanning multiple sessions the tones remain identical.
  • For fine gradients, work with 3-5 gray steps prepared in advance in separate containers, rather than adjusting the tone 'on the fly' — you'll achieve much more controlled transitions.
  • The neutrality of the shade makes it a good benchmark: if you mix other tones, always compare them with the pure gray from the bottle as a reference point.
  • Visually inspect the ink before use — it should be homogeneous after shaking; if the bottle is damaged or the contents appear degraded, do not use it.
Warning: The declared purpose of this ink is drawing, not tattooing — any use for purposes other than the one stated is strictly the consumer's responsibility, and the shop assumes no liability for uses outside of this purpose. On hygiene: the bottle comes sterilized, with a traceable batch — preserve its integrity by working only via decanting, without introducing brushes or other used tools directly into the original container.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is the shade of this gray?

It is a perfectly neutral medium gray — neither warm nor cool, with no visible undertone. As a reference, the manufacturer's description places it approximately at the equivalent of a 1:2 to 1:3 dilution (black:thinner). It is neither light gray nor dark gray, but exactly the middle of the tonal scale, designed as a starting point from which you can go in either direction.

Why would I buy a pre-mixed gray instead of diluting my own black?

For consistency. When diluting manually, the ratio inevitably differs from session to session, and on long projects the differences accumulate and become visible. Pre-mixed gray delivers exactly the same shade every time you open the bottle, and the pigments are industrially dispersed, more uniformly than with hand mixing. It doesn't completely eliminate the need for dilution to achieve intermediate tones, but it gives you a fixed reference point in your palette.

Can I mix it with black or white from the same line?

Yes, that is actually one of its main uses. Adding black gives you a controlled dark gray, adding white gives you a light gray, and with diluting solution you get an even more subtle tone. Gray works as the central pivot of the palette: many artists prepare 3-5 containers — pure black, dark gray, pure gray, light gray, and a very diluted tone — and thus cover the entire range they need in a monochrome work.

How should I store the ink properly and how important is hygiene during use?

The golden rule: do not introduce anything into the bottle. Decant into separate containers, discard what remains after the session, and never pour back. The bottle comes sterilized, with a traceable batch, and its integrity is preserved only if you work clean. Store it tightly closed, in a cool place away from sunlight, and shake well before each use to keep the pigment homogeneous.

Is this the same Eternal Gray used for tattoos? Can I tattoo with it?

The product is sold by us as a drawing ink — this is its declared purpose, not tattooing. Any use other than the one stated is strictly the consumer's responsibility, and the shop assumes no liability for use outside of this purpose. If you work in monochrome on paper or other artistic surfaces, you are using it exactly for what it is sold and benefit from all its tonal qualities.

Is it vegan and compliant with European regulations?

According to the manufacturer, the formula is 100% vegan, made in the USA, and compliant with EU REACH, with pigments that respect the restrictions of Annex XVII, entry 75. The 30 ml bottle comes sterilized and with a traceable batch, and Eternal provides full compliance documentation upon request — useful if you need documents for studio or workshop material records.

Product description

Drawing ink Eternal Quantity: 30ml This ink is intended to be used for drawing, not to be used for tattoos. Its use for purposes other than those mentioned by the consumer is strictly the responsibility of the consumer. We do not assume any responsibility in the case of using this tus for a purpose other than the one mentioned. Eternal Gray 30ml is a neutral medium grey, pre-mixed, from Eternal Ink's Standard Colors collection, delivering a perfectly balanced grey tone ready to use without the need for manual dilution of black ink. This ink solves one of the greatest challenges in black and grey tattoos — tone consistency. When artists manually dilute black, each session can produce a slightly different grey. Eternal Gray eliminates this variability by delivering exactly the same grey shade from every bottle, session after session, project after project. The tone is a neutral medium grey — neither warm nor cool — serving as the central point of the grey palette. Combines perfectly with pure black for darker tones and with bare skin or white for lighter tones. Eternal's proprietary formula in glycerin medium provides a creamy consistency that applies smoothly and evenly, with controlled penetration producing natural gradients and soft shading. After healing, Gray maintains neutrality without shifting toward blue, green, or brown — a pure grey that stays grey. Ideal for: black and grey portraits, shading in any style, skin tones in monochromatic realism, and as a base for controlled gradient techniques. 100% vegan formula, manufactured in the USA, EU REACH compliant. 30ml bottle, sterilized, lot-traceable. Perfect consistency guaranteed at every use. Frequently Asked Questions
