Guide & full description
Complete guide: Fusion drawing brush Icy Blue 30ml
A professional water-based ink from Fusion, in the shade 'Icy Blue' — a glacial, cool and bright blue, used by artists for cool light accents, atmospheric backgrounds, and focal points in complex compositions. The formula contains organic pigments, distilled water, witch hazel, and alcohol, is vegan, and contains no fillers. The 30 ml format is aimed at artists who frequently work with cool blue tones and want a better cost per milliliter than the 15 ml bottle.
How to use
- Check the integrity of the seal and the expiration date before first use; the sealed product lasts 3 years, and after opening it should be used within 12 months.
- Shake the bottle vigorously for one minute before each session so that the pigment is completely homogenized in the water base.
- Pour only the necessary amount into disposable ink caps — the bottle's controlled pouring system helps with precise dosing, without waste.
- Close the bottle immediately after pouring and keep it outside the work area to prevent contamination from aerosols or splashes.
- Work exclusively from the ink cap; never dip needles directly into the bottle and do not pour surplus back into the bottle.
- For translucent or watercolor style effects, dilute the shade in a separate cap — the manufacturer recommends mixing with Mixing White from the same range.
- At the end of the session, discard the ink caps along with the leftover ink, then store the bottle at 10–32°C, away from direct sunlight.
Tips from us
- Insufficient shaking is the most common cause of inconsistent color — shake for a full minute, not just a few seconds.
- Write the first opening date directly on the label so you know exactly when the 12-month window expires.
- Use Icy Blue as a cool light accent in contrast with the warm tones of the work — that's where its glacial character shows best.
- For realism, the manufacturer recommends harmonious mixing with the Opaque Gray and Opaque Blue series for natural transitions in highlight areas.
- If you use the shade only occasionally, the 15 ml version may be the more practical choice — the formula is identical, but the risk of exceeding the 12 months after opening is lower.
- Choose the shade according to role: Icy Blue for cool and bright accents, Light Blue for classic blue tones, Opaque Blue for works with a gray component.
Frequently asked questions
How long can I use the ink after opening it?▾
The manufacturer indicates a shelf life of 3 years for the sealed bottle and 12 months after first opening, provided proper storage: at 10–32°C, away from direct sunlight. Note the opening date on the label and do not use the ink after expiration or if its appearance, smell, or consistency has changed.
Why should the bottle be shaken before use?▾
Being a water-based ink, pigments can separate from the liquid when at rest. The manufacturer recommends vigorous shaking for one minute before use — this gives you a homogeneous color and consistent saturation throughout the session. Without proper shaking, the first drops poured may come out more diluted than the rest of the bottle.
What should I choose: the 30 ml bottle or the 15 ml one?▾
The formula and performance are identical between the two formats; only the volume differs. The 30 ml bottle has a better price per milliliter and suits artists who regularly use this shade. If you rarely work with cool blue, 15 ml may be more suitable, because after opening the ink remains valid only 12 months.
What other Fusion shades does Icy Blue combine with?▾
According to the manufacturer, Icy Blue blends harmoniously with the Opaque Gray and Opaque Blue series for natural transitions in realistic works, and for translucent watercolor effects it can be diluted with Mixing White. Compared to the other blues in the range, Icy Blue is the coolest shade: Light Blue is a purer blue, and Opaque Blue has a gray component.
Is the ink vegan? What does it contain?▾
Yes. The water-based formula contains organic pigments, distilled water, witch hazel, and alcohol, without fillers and without animal-derived ingredients. The manufacturer — an American brand owned by artists — states that the formula contains no carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic substances and that the product holds EU certifications.
Can I pour the leftover ink from the ink cap back into the bottle, so I don't waste it?▾
No, never. Ink that has been in the work area is considered contaminated, and returning it to the bottle compromises the entire remaining content. From the start, pour only as much as you estimate you'll use — the bottle's controlled pouring system helps you dose precisely — and at the end, discard the ink cap along with the surplus.
