Guide & full description

Complete guide: Intenze Distilled Mixer 360 ml

A sterile 360 ml solution for fine adjustment of the viscosity and consistency of Intenze inks — essentially an ultra-purified water-based carrier with minimal preservatives. It is designed for artists who want total control over ink flow: it slightly thins inks that have thickened during storage, improves flow when working with very fine needles or at low voltage, and rehydrates inks that have lost water through evaporation. It is not a classic wash diluent, but a fine-tuning tool, drop by drop.

How to use

  1. Shake the ink bottle well before any adjustment, so the pigment is evenly dispersed.
  2. Pour the ink into disposable ink caps, as in any regular session.
  3. Add 1 drop of Distilled Mixer to the ink cap and mix well — always start with the minimum.
  4. Test the consistency and flow; if the ink is still too thick, add one more drop gradually (usually 1-3 drops are sufficient).
  5. Do not exceed 10-20% of the ink volume — beyond this threshold use Color Mixing Solution, which contains dispersion agents for heavy dilutions.
  6. Check the result on artificial skin before working on a client, especially if you have adjusted multiple colors.
  7. Close the bottle immediately after use and store it away from heat and direct light to maintain the purity of the solution.

Tips from us

  • The golden rule: less is more. You can easily add an extra drop, but you can't take liquid back out of the ink.
  • Use it for its typical situations: ink thickened after months of storage, working with fine needles (thin lines), low voltage, or ink that has started to dry at the edge of the ink cap.
  • For shading washes it is not the right choice — use Special Shading Solution there; Distilled Mixer is strictly a viscosity adjuster.
  • In excess it can cause pigment separation because it does not contain strong dispersion agents — if you see separation, you have exceeded the dose.
  • The 360 ml format is the most economical per ml: with a consumption of a few drops per session, a single artist can get 6-12 months or more.
  • Keep track of the opening date — the shelf life after opening is 12-18 months, and consumption by drops is slow.
Warning: The product is packaged sterile — work with it only with gloves and avoid contact of the bottle mouth with ink caps, needles or other surfaces, so as not to contaminate the rest of the solution. Do not replace the solution with distilled water from the pharmacy: that does not contain preservatives and after opening can be quickly colonized by microorganisms, a real risk in tattooing procedures. Adjusted ink in the ink cap is discarded at the end of the session — never pour it back into the bottle.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Distilled Mixer and Color Mixing Solution — which one do I choose?

Distilled Mixer is a simple medium (ultra-purified water with minimal preservatives), for fine adjustments of 1-3 drops in the ink cap: you adjust the flow, slightly thin a thickened ink. Color Mixing Solution contains active dispersion agents, identical to those in inks, and is designed for significant dilutions (1:1 and above), keeping the pigment uniformly dispersed. In short: fine tuning = Distilled Mixer, major dilution = Color Mixing Solution. Both have their place on the work station, but they are not interchangeable.

Can I make shading washes (grey wash) with Distilled Mixer?

It is not recommended. For shading there is Special Shading Solution, which contains agents that facilitate uniform ink penetration into the skin, optimized for shading techniques. Distilled Mixer is purely a viscosity adjuster — used for washes it will give inferior results. If you just want a slightly more fluid ink for better flow, it's the right choice; if you want diluted tones for shading, it's not.

How much do I add so as not to ruin the ink?

Start with 1 drop in the standard ink cap, mix well and test. Usually 1-3 drops are sufficient. The practical limit is 10-20% of the ink volume — beyond this threshold, pigments may separate because the solution does not contain strong dispersion agents. If you need a larger dilution, switch to Color Mixing Solution. Add gradually and test on artificial skin before the client.

Can't I just use distilled water from the pharmacy, since it's cheaper?

It's not worth the risk. Distilled water from the pharmacy is sterile at packaging, but it contains no preservatives — after opening it can be quickly colonized by microorganisms. Distilled Mixer has preservatives that prevent microbiological growth, it is produced in the USA under GMP standards, compliant with EU REACH, sterilized and has a traceable batch. The cost difference is negligible compared to the risk of introducing an uncontrolled liquid into a procedure that opens the skin.

Does it work with inks from other brands, not just Intenze?

The product is designed and tested as a carrier for Intenze inks — there the behavior is predictable. Inks from other manufacturers have different formulas and dispersion systems, so the result is not guaranteed. If you still want to try, do it in minimal quantity, in a single ink cap, and check homogeneity and behavior on artificial skin before working; as a general rule, the safest remains the diluent recommended by the respective ink manufacturer.

How long is the 360 ml bottle good for after opening and how do I store it?

The shelf life after opening is 12-18 months, and since consumption is by drops, a single artist easily covers 6-12 months of work from one bottle. To keep it in good condition: close it immediately after each use, do not touch the bottle mouth to anything, handle it with gloves and store it in a clean place away from heat. Note the opening date on the label — at this volume, the date is more likely to expire before the product, not the other way around.

Product description

Solution for diluting inks. The product is packed sterile. Quantity: 360ml Intenze Distilled Mixer 360ml is a purified transport medium designed for fine adjustments to the viscosity and consistency of Intenze inks. Unlike Color Mixing Solution which contains active dispersion agents for significant dilutions, Distilled Mixer is a simpler formula — an ultra-purified water-based medium with minimal preservatives, ideal for subtle adjustments that do not require powerful dispersion stabilizers. Primary uses include: slightly reducing viscosity of inks that have thickened after storage periods, adjusting flow for specific working conditions (very fine needles, low voltage), and rehydrating inks that have slightly lost water content through evaporation. Distilled Mixer is not a diluter in the classic sense — it is not designed for large dilutions like Color Mixing Solution, but for fine adjustments of maximum 10-20% of volume. At 360ml, the high-volume format offers economy and sufficient stock for months of work. Vegan formula, manufactured in the USA under GMP standards, EU REACH compliant. Sterilized, lot-traceable. Added in small quantities — a drop or two in the ink cap is usually sufficient. The precision tool for artists who demand total control over their ink consistency. Frequently Asked Questions
