Guide & full description
Complete guide: Intenze Gen Z Power Grey Grandpa Grey 30ml
Intenze Gen Z Power Grey 'Grandpa Grey' 30ml is a professional tattoo ink, a medium-light grey shade with a warm undertone, part of the Power Grey series by the American brand Intenze. It is aimed at artists working in black and grey and realistic portraiture, designed for medium skin tones and gradual transitions in monochrome works. The Gen Z formula uses pre-dispersed vegan pigments and is reformulated according to EU REACH Regulation 2020/2081, for legal professional use in the EU.
How to use
- Shake the bottle vigorously for 30-60 seconds before each use, so that the pigments disperse evenly in the solution — without proper shaking, the first drop may come out more concentrated than the rest.
- Decant into a disposable cup only the amount you need for the session; never insert the needle or cartridge directly into the bottle, to prevent contamination of the remaining ink.
- For fine transitions and medium skin tones, use a 7-9 needle round shader, with a pendulum technique.
- For large areas with smooth gradients, a 9-13 needle curved magnum gives good results; for precise details, choose a 5 needle round shader.
- Work with medium-low voltage — the shade is formulated for this range and gives the most consistent results this way.
- For denser filling of medium areas, a single pass with a curved magnum and constant pressure is usually sufficient; for a more opaque effect, apply two light passes with a short pause between them.
- For a more customized skin tone, you can mix it directly in the cup with other shades from the Gen Z range (for example with Peach for a warm skin tone, or with Platinum for a medium silver grey) or with other Power Grey shades for additional transitions.
- At the end of the session, close the bottle dropper tightly and discard any leftover ink in the cup — do not pour it back into the bottle.
Tips from us
- If you are not sure what grey intensity you need, remember the positioning on the scale: Grandpa Grey is lighter than Slate and more intense than Retro.
- Use it especially on the medium skin tones in portraits — for very dark areas, a more intense shade from the same series performs better.
- The warm undertone of Grandpa Grey is also useful in old school/vintage works, not just in realistic portraiture.
- Note down the mixing combinations you like (for example with Peach or Platinum), so you can reproduce them identically next time.
- Estimate the consumption per session (approximately 1-3ml for a medium portrait) so you know in advance when to order the next bottle — a 30ml bottle usually covers 2-4 months of regular use.
- Keep the bottle tightly closed between sessions, away from direct light and excessive heat, so that the formula remains stable.
Frequently asked questions
What differentiates Grandpa Grey from other greys in the Power Grey series?▾
It has a warm undertone, unlike the cool or neutral greys in the rest of the range. It is positioned between Retro (lighter) and Slate (more intense), so it is a warm medium-light grey. This warmth helps especially in portraits, where cool greys can make the skin look lifeless.
With what needles and at what voltage is it best used?▾
For subtle transitions and skin tones, a 7-9 needle round shader with pendulum technique gives good results. For large areas with fine gradient, a 9-13 needle curved magnum is ideal, and for precise details, a 5 needle round shader offers maximum control. Medium-low voltage is recommended.
How to use and store it correctly from a hygienic point of view?▾
Shake the bottle for 30-60 seconds before each use, for uniform pigment dispersion. Decant into a disposable cup only as much as you need and never insert the needle or cartridge directly into the bottle, to avoid contamination. Close the dropper tightly after use and discard the leftovers from the cup at the end of the session.
Can Grandpa Grey be mixed with other colors?▾
Yes — it combines well with any other Power Grey shade for transitions, and within the Gen Z range, mixing with Peach gives a realistic skin tone, and with Platinum a medium silver grey. It is compatible with both rotary and coil machines.
Is its use allowed in the European Union?▾
Yes. The product is reformulated according to EU REACH Regulation 2020/2081 and is certified for professional use in the EU, so it can be legally purchased and used in Romania by authorized artists.
How long does a 30ml bottle last?▾
For an artist specialized in black and grey, a bottle usually covers 2-4 months of regular use. For an average portrait session, approximately 1-3ml is consumed; actual consumption varies depending on the size of the works.
