Guide & full description

Complete guide: Intenze Gen Z Power Grey Lamp Black 30ml

Intenze Gen Z Power Grey Lamp Black 30ml is a tattoo ink from the Power Grey series, developed by Intenze together with artists Marco Klose and Angelina Mengel. It is the darkest shade of the series — a deep black with a subtle hint of gray, different from pure blacks like True Black or Zuper Black. It is aimed at tattoo artists working in black and grey / realism style who need a black with a bit of transparency, suitable for the deepest shadows of a composition. Being the starting point of the Power Grey scale (Lamp Black, Coal, Graphit, Slate, Grandpa Grey, Retro, Nosta White, plus Special Shading), it reduces the need for manual dilution when building transitions from black to gray.

How to use

  1. Shake the bottle well before each use, so the pre-dispersed pigments remain homogeneous and the flow through the needle is constant.
  2. Pour only the necessary amount into a clean disposable ink cap immediately before the session — the 30ml bottle has a precision dropper that helps with dosing.
  3. Never work directly from the original bottle and do not reintroduce leftover ink from the cap into it, to avoid contaminating the rest of the contents.
  4. Load the machine according to your usual technique; the manufacturer declares compatibility with rotary and coil machines.
  5. Use Lamp Black for the darkest areas of the design, as a base from which you later build the transition to the lighter shades of the Power Grey series.
  6. For soft lines or subtle outlines in a realistic style it can be used; for hard, definitive lines, consider a pure black like True Black or Zuper Black.
  7. At the end of the session, dispose of all leftover ink in the cap according to the studio's hygiene protocol.
  8. Close the bottle cap tightly after use and store it away from direct light and heat.

Tips from us

  • Build gradually, from Lamp Black towards the lighter shades of the Power Grey series, for natural shadow transitions.
  • Test the consistency and flow on a bit of synthetic skin before starting work on the client, especially if you change the needle configuration.
  • For pictorial shading (layering tones from dark to light), shake the bottle more carefully — pre-dispersed pigments can settle slightly if the bottle sits unused for a long time.
  • Check the lot and expiration date of the bottle before each session, as with any cosmetic consumable.
  • If you want a pure, opaque black for outlines and solid fill, choose a dedicated ink (e.g., True Black / Zuper Black) in addition — Lamp Black is not designed as a primary line black.
Warning: As a sterile packaged consumable, follow standard tattoo hygiene rules: use only disposable caps to pour the ink, never insert the needle directly into the original bottle, discard any leftover ink in the cap at the end of the session, and do not reuse it on another client. Store the bottle closed, in a dry place, away from light and direct heat, and visually inspect the contents (color, consistency) before each use.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Lamp Black and True Black Intenze?

Lamp Black is part of the Power Grey series and offers a black with slight transparency and a more organic quality, ideal for smooth transitions to grays in black and grey realism work. True Black is a pure, opaque black designed for definitive lines and solid fill. Essentially, Lamp Black is preferred for subtlety in shading, True Black for maximum impact and hard outlines.

Why is it called Lamp Black?

The name comes from the traditional pigment "lamp black," historically obtained from the soot of oil lamps — one of the oldest pigments used in art, known for its warm tone and soft, organic quality. Intenze Gen Z reproduces this quality with modern synthetic pigments, without real soot in the composition.

Can Lamp Black be used for lines, or only for shading?

It can be used for lines, but it is not the first choice for definitive outlines due to its slight transparency — it is excellent for soft lines and subtle outlines in realism. For hard, definitive lines, a pure black like True Black or Zuper Black is more suitable. Lamp Black shows its quality especially in shading and deep shadows.

How is Lamp Black used together with the rest of the Power Grey series?

Lamp Black is the starting point of the series — the darkest tone, from which all transitions are built. From Lamp Black you naturally move to Coal, then Graphit, Slate, Grandpa Grey, Retro, and Nosta White. Together, the 7 grays plus Special Shading form a complete scale, eliminating the need for manual dilution of black to obtain intermediate grays.

Is it compatible with any tattoo machine?

The manufacturer declares compatibility with both rotary and coil machines, the formula being pre-dispersed precisely for a constant flow through various needle configurations.

How should the ink be stored and used to avoid contamination?

Pour only the necessary amount into a disposable ink cap each session and never work directly from the original bottle. Do not reintroduce leftover ink from the cap into the bottle — discard it at the end of the session. Keep the bottle tightly closed between uses, away from light and heat, and check the expiration date/lot before use.

The product is packed sterile Quantity: 30ml Intenze Gen Z Power Grey Lamp Black 30ml is the darkest ink in the Power Grey series, offering a deep black with a slight grey nuance that differentiates it from True Black or Zuper Black. Reformulated to EU REACH 2020/2081 standards, Lamp Black faithfully reproduces the traditional lampblack tone, a classic pigment used in art for centuries. The Gen Z formula uses next-generation vegan pigments, pre-dispersed for perfect consistency and superior flow through all needle configurations. Lamp Black is ideal for the deepest shadows in black and grey realism work, where pure black would be too harsh and lacking in subtlety. It offers a dense black with enough transparency to allow natural transitions to the medium greys of the Power Grey series. Compared to True Black, Lamp Black has a softer, more organic quality preferred by portraiture artists for facial shadows and dark hair. It is the cornerstone of the Power Grey series, from which all descending transitions are built. 30ml bottle with precision dropper. Compatible with all rotary and coil machines. Manufactured in the USA, sterile, vegan, EU REACH certified. The Lamp Black name honors the artistic tradition of this pigment used by masters of classical painting such as Rembrandt and Caravaggio for creating deep shadows in portraits. Intenze brings this artistic quality to the tattoo world with a modern, safe, and vegan formula. Lamp Black is ideal for artists pursuing a painterly approach to tattooing, building three-dimensional images through careful layering of tones from dark to light. Frequently Asked Questions What is the difference between Lamp Black and True Black Intenze? Lamp Black is part of the Power Grey series and offers a black with slight transparency and organic quality, ideal for fluid transitions to greys. True Black is a pure, opaque black designed for definitive lines and solid packing. Lamp Black is preferred in realism for subtlety, True Black for maximum impact and outlines. Why is it called Lamp Black? The name comes from the traditional lamp black pigment, historically obtained from oil lamp soot. It is one of the oldest pigments used in art, known for its warm tone and soft, organic quality. Intenze Gen Z reproduces this quality using modern synthetic pigments without actual soot. Is Lamp Black suitable for lining? Lamp Black can be used for lining but is not the first choice for definitive outlines due to its slight transparency. It is excellent for soft lines and subtle outlines in realism. For hard, definitive lines, True Black or Zuper Black are more suitable. Lamp Black excels in shading and deep shadow applications. How does Lamp Black work with the Power Grey series? Lamp Black is the starting point of the Power Grey series, the darkest tone from which all transitions are built. From Lamp Black you naturally progress to Coal, then Graphit, Slate, Grandpa Grey, Retro, and Nosta White. Together they form a complete scale of 7 greys plus Special Shading, completely eliminating the need for manual dilution. Is Lamp Black EU REACH compliant? Yes, Intenze Gen Z Lamp Black is fully compliant with EU REACH Regulation 2020/2081. The formula does not contain carbon black in restricted forms or other banned substances. The black pigments have been specifically reformulated to comply with European legislation while maintaining characteristic quality and intensity. What voltage is recommended for Lamp Black? Lamp Black works optimally at standard voltage, similar to regular black settings. For deep shadows with curved magnums, normal voltage ensures adequate penetration. For subtle transitions to greys, reduce voltage by 0.5V and use a lighter technique to control pigment deposition. Can Lamp Black be used for cover-ups? Lamp Black provides good coverage due to its high density, but for complete cover-ups of dark tattoos, True Black or Zuper Black are more efficient choices due to superior opacity. Lamp Black works well in cover-ups where a subtle, artistic approach is desired, integrating the old tattoo into a new design. Is Lamp Black vegan? Yes, Lamp Black is 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Unlike traditional formulas that used bone char or animal soot, Intenze Gen Z uses exclusively high-purity synthetic pigments. The product has not been tested on animals and is certified by international vegan organizations. How should Lamp Black be stored? Store at room temperature (15-30°C), away from direct light and heat. Do not freeze. Shake vigorously for 30-60 seconds before each use. After opening, use within 12 months. Shelf life: 3 years sealed. Ensure the cap is perfectly sealed after use. How different is Lamp Black from Zuper Black? Lamp Black and Zuper Black serve completely different purposes. Zuper Black is the blackest, most opaque Intenze ink, designed for definitive lines and maximum solid packing. Lamp Black has a more subtle quality with slight transparency, designed for natural shadows and fluid transitions in realism. Zuper Black covers totally, Lamp Black allows layering.
