Guide & full description

Complete guide: Kwadron INX UniShader #2 Tattoo Shading Ink 120ml

We are talking about a shading ink from the INX UniShader series by Kwadron, in a 120 ml bottle, at intensity level #2 — described by the manufacturer as 'classic balance'. It is designed for artists who work in black & grey, portraits, large areas, and shading with smooth but clearly visible transitions. The series has four numbered levels from 1 to 4, so you can choose the intensity directly from the bottle, without mixing inks yourself. The 120 ml format is a heavy-duty working size, suitable for studios that consistently use the same shade.

How to use

  1. Before the session, check the bottle: intact seal, legible label, valid batch and expiration date. If the packaging is damaged, do not use it.
  2. Shake the bottle well before each use, so the pigment is evenly distributed throughout the entire quantity.
  3. Pour only the necessary amount into disposable ink caps placed in a holder. Never work directly from the large bottle and do not insert the needle into it.
  4. Close the bottle immediately after pouring and wipe the bottle neck with a disinfectant wipe, so the cap does not stick and to avoid contamination.
  5. Do a quick test on synthetic skin to calibrate your speed, angle, and number of passes — this way you see exactly how intense #2 comes out in your technique, before touching the client's skin.
  6. Build the shadow in layers: start gently, with controlled passes, and add intensity gradually. It is much easier to darken an area than to lighten it back.
  7. If you need a lighter or darker level in the same work, use the corresponding shade from the series (1–4) instead of improvising mixtures on the spot.
  8. At the end, dispose of all remaining ink in the caps together with the caps — never return it to the bottle. Clean the outside of the bottle and store it tightly closed, at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.

Tips from us

  • With a 120 ml bottle, it is worth decanting into a smaller working bottle that you keep at the station. The large bottle remains the 'clean reserve', touched as rarely as possible and with clean hands.
  • Mark the date you opened the bottle with a marker. It gives you a clear reference for stock rotation, alongside the expiration date on the label.
  • Make a reference swatch on synthetic skin with the shades from the series you have, at the same working settings. It becomes the fastest way to choose the intensity for a new design.
  • Keep a record of the shades used for each work, especially for portraits. At the touch-up session, you will know exactly what you applied and where.
  • Don't pour 'just to have': put in caps only as much as you need for the current step. You reduce waste on a consumable that you will throw away anyway at the end.
  • Keep the bottle away from heat sources and direct sunlight, no matter how often you use it.
Warning: This product is intended exclusively for professional use in tattooing, used by trained individuals, in a space that complies with hygiene standards. Always work with gloves, protective barriers on the machine, clip cord, and bottles, and with disposable ink caps — a cap or an amount of ink used on one client is never reused on another and is never poured back into the bottle. Do not insert the needle or cartridge into the main bottle. Check before each session the integrity of the packaging and the expiration date on the label, and if you notice any changes in appearance or smell, do not use the product. Discuss with the client any possible sensitivities or previous reactions to inks and comply with the legislation and procedures in force in your studio. The product is not intended for cosmetic, food, or medical use; keep out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

What does '#2' mean and how do I choose between shades 1–4 in the series?

The UniShader series has four numbered shades from 1 to 4, each corresponding to an intensity level: the higher the number, the more intense the level. #2 is described by the manufacturer as the classic balance — suitable for smooth tonal transitions, but more pronounced than the lightest level. The idea of the series is to take the intensity directly from the bottle, without mixing inks yourself. If you work a lot in black & grey, the most practical is to have several levels at hand and switch from one to another as you build the shadow.

Do I need to dilute it before use?

The series is built precisely so that you don't have to prepare mixtures yourself: you choose the desired intensity level and work directly with it. For any additional preparation instructions, the correct reference remains the label and the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging — do not improvise dilution recipes by ear, because you change the ink's behavior from what it was designed for.

Is it suitable for portraits and large areas?

Yes, the manufacturer recommends it exactly for black and grey work, portraits, larger surfaces, and precise shading, with a clear rhythm of light and shadow. On large surfaces, the 120 ml format helps: you don't run out of shade halfway through a long session and you maintain consistency throughout the work, which matters a lot when building transitions.

How do I store it properly and what do I do with the ink left in the caps?

The ink left in the caps is disposed of together with the caps at the end of each client — it is never returned to the bottle, because any contact with the needle, skin, or glove contaminates the entire quantity. The bottle is shaken before use, closed tightly immediately after pouring, wiped at the neck, and stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Always respect the expiration date printed on the label.

Does it work with any machine and any type of needle?

The product data does not specify compatibility with certain machines or needle configurations, and in practice a tattoo ink is not tied to a specific machine brand. What matters is your technique: the needle configuration, speed, angle, and number of passes influence how intensely the shade settles on the skin. That is why it is always worth doing a test on synthetic skin with your usual setup before starting the work.

I am a beginner — is this an ink I can use?

The numbered four-level system is friendly precisely for someone who is still building their eye for values: you choose the intensity intuitively, instead of relying on your own mixtures. The recommendation remains the same as for any ink: practice first on synthetic skin, learn how the shade behaves with your settings, and only then move on to real skin, under complete hygiene conditions.
