Guide & full description
Complete guide: AptoGrip Aluminum 25mm
This is a reusable grip with an adjustable tube, made from anodized aluminum and 7075-grade stainless steel (aircraft-grade), designed for tattoo artists who want an ergonomic grip that's easy to sterilize between clients. The 25 mm diameter offers a thicker grip, especially appreciated during long shading and color packing sessions, where pressure needs to be evenly distributed in the palm. It fits most machines with a standard 8 mm backstem and allows precise needle protrusion adjustment even while working. Being reusable and autoclavable, it replaces disposable grips in the long term.
How to use
- Mount the grip onto the machine via the standard 8 mm backstem. Thanks to its construction, the grip does not pivot relative to the machine, so the position stays fixed during work.
- Insert the standard 8 mm tip — the manufacturer recommends disposable plastic tips — together with the needle/cartridge suitable for your setup.
- Adjust the needle protrusion by turning the adjustment nut on the grip; it remains accessible while working, with a 4 mm adjustment range.
- Use the reference marks on the tube to achieve exactly the same tip length with every setup, especially if you change needles during the session.
- Apply protective barriers (film/clip cord sleeve) according to the salon's hygiene protocol before starting.
- At the end, dispose of the disposable tip and needle/cartridge in the appropriate waste container.
- Clean the grip mechanically, then sterilize it in a steam autoclave (cycle B) at 134°C; keep the included hex key for tightening the tip when needed.
Tips from us
- Write down or memorize the adjustment position using the reference marks on the tube, so you can quickly reproduce the same needle protrusion with each setup.
- Use 8 mm disposable plastic tips and do not reuse them — this is the most hygienic solution and is recommended by the manufacturer.
- The anodized surface provides good grip with nitrile or latex gloves; avoid oils and lubricants on the grip body, as they reduce traction.
- For techniques with constant pressure on large areas (shading, fill), the 25 mm diameter distributes pressure better in the palm than a thinner grip.
- Clean the grip immediately after use, before ink and liquid residues dry, for more effective sterilization.
Frequently asked questions
What does the product include?▾
A 25 mm AptoGrip Aluminum grip and a hex key for tightening the tip. Disposable tips and needles/cartridges are sold separately.
Which machines is it compatible with?▾
It fits most tattoo machines that use a standard 8 mm backstem. The construction ensures the grip does not rotate relative to the machine, so the adjustment stays secure. If your machine uses a different connection type, check the specification before purchase.
How do I sterilize it properly?▾
First clean it mechanically, then sterilize it in a steam autoclave, cycle B, at 134°C. Important: DO NOT use hot air autoclaves, DO NOT clean with ultrasound, and avoid alkaline or strong acids — otherwise the grip will be damaged and you will lose the warranty.
What tips and needles can I use?▾
Standard 8 mm tips, and the manufacturer recommends disposable plastic tips. The tube (OD 8 mm / ID 6.5 mm) allows large needle configurations, up to 17 Mag / 0.35 according to the manufacturer's specification.
What's the difference compared to a thinner version (e.g., 22 mm)?▾
The grip diameter differs. The 25 mm offers a thicker grip, preferred by many artists for long shading and fill sessions, as it distributes pressure over a larger palm area. A thinner version offers a slimmer grip for fine control in lining and details. The choice depends on your hand size and predominant technique.
Why aluminum and not stainless steel?▾
Aluminum makes the grip lighter and more maneuverable during long sessions, and the anodized layer withstands repeated autoclaving without degrading. AptoGrip combines 7075-grade aluminum with stainless steel for durability, and unlike reusable silicone grips, it does not absorb pigment.
