Complete guide: Cheyenne Sol Grip 22mm
This is the grip in its thinnest version, 22 mm, from the SOL range of German manufacturer Cheyenne. It is aimed at artists who work on linework, fine details and lettering, where precise control matters more than the comfort of a thick grip. Being an adjustable aluminum grip, it allows you to adjust the needle depth and is sterilized for reuse between clients.
How to use
- Before first use and between clients, sterilize the grip in an autoclave – it is aluminum, reusable, manufactured to medical standard ISO 13485.
- Mount the SOL grip onto your Cheyenne machine body. It is designed for the SOL range (SOL Terra, SOL Luna, SOL Nova) and, according to the manufacturer, is also compatible with Hawk Thunder and Hawk Spirit. It must fit tightly, without play.
- Insert a Cheyenne cartridge into the grip – all Cheyenne cartridges can be used with these grips.
- Adjust the needle depth within the 0–4 mm range, depending on your technique (lining, shading, etc.).
- Cover the grip and the cable with a protective barrier/disposable sleeve before touching the client.
- Check the balance of the machine + grip assembly, then start at the desired voltage.
- After the session, discard the barrier, clean the grip mechanically with a brush and enzymatic detergent, then sterilize it again in the autoclave.
Tips from us
- 22 mm (S) is the thinnest variant and gives the most direct control – very good for lining and detail; if you want a more versatile grip, the same range also has M (25.4 mm) and L (33.0 mm).
- If you sweat a lot or want more traction, you can wrap a grip tape over the handle.
- Use a protective barrier/sleeve for each client – you protect both the grip and the client.
- Clean the grip mechanically before autoclaving; hardened residues reduce sterilization efficiency.
- Keep the proof of purchase: SOL grips have a 12-month warranty, plus an additional 6 months after any repair.
Warning: This is a reusable metal grip, not disposable: it must be autoclave-sterilized between clients and used with a protective barrier each time. Do not rely solely on chemical cold disinfection for an instrument that enters the field of work.

The Cheyenne Sol 22mm Grip is the original S (Small) size grip specifically designed for Cheyenne Sol Nova and Sol Terra machines. With a 22mm diameter, this is the thinnest available grip for the Sol platform, providing exceptional precision control for artists who work lining, fine details, and lettering. Manufactured from premium quality anodized aluminum with wear-resistant matte black finish. Autoclavable at 134°C for complete sterilization between clients. The ergonomic design of the Sol grip differs subtly from the Pen grip — it is optimized for the specific geometry of the Sol Nova machine which has a slightly different body than the Hawk Pen. The grip interior mounts perfectly on the Sol Nova/Sol Terra body without play, ensuring total stability during work. The minimal weight of aluminum contributes to ideal machine+grip assembly balance, reducing fatigue during 6-8 hour sessions. The exterior surface provides sufficient natural grip, but can be supplemented with grip tape for artists who prefer more traction. Compatible exclusively with the Sol platform — does not mount on Cheyenne Pen or Hawk Thunder.
