Guide & full description

Complete guide: Scorpion grip 22mm Anodized Aluminium

This is the official anodized aluminum grip designed for the InkMachines Scorpion rotary machine, with a diameter of 22mm and fitting for Neo cartridges. It is aimed at artists who already own a Scorpion machine and want a slim, lightweight grip that aligns perfectly on the machine body. The grip mounts onto the machine via a bayonet connection and is sterilized by steam autoclaving, being a reusable part, not a consumable.

How to use

  1. First check compatibility: the grip is designed for the InkMachines Scorpion machine. It is delivered for Neo cartridges, but can also be used with standard cartridges if you add the Grip Adaptor NR.146 (sold separately).
  2. Sterilize the grip before first use and between clients by steam autoclaving on standard cycle B at 134°C.
  3. Mount the grip onto the Scorpion machine body via the 30° bayonet connection — it locks with a short twist, not by screwing with several turns.
  4. Insert the Neo cartridge into the grip; the 90° fit provides a smoother and more secure attachment than the 30° fit of standard cartridges.
  5. Adjust the needle depth from the top of the machine, 'on the fly', not by rotating the grip. The set depth is retained even if you remove and remount the grip.
  6. Hold the grip with a relaxed grip during work; the 22mm diameter is designed for fine control.
  7. At the end, remove and discard the cartridge (it is a single-use consumable), then clean and sterilize the grip again before storing it.

Tips from us

  • The 22mm slim grip is preferred for lining, fine-line, dotwork, and detail work; choose the diameter based on your hand and predominant style.
  • For cartridges not in the Neo range, purchase the Grip Adaptor NR.146 separately — without it, correct mounting of standard cartridges is not guaranteed.
  • Clean the grip (e.g., in an ultrasonic bath) before placing it in the autoclave to ensure complete sterilization.
  • Since the needle depth remains set when you remove and replace the grip, you can quickly disassemble it during breaks without losing the adjustment.
  • The one-piece anodized aluminum construction, with no seams, cleans easily — take advantage of this and wipe it down immediately after the session.
Warning: Hygiene and maintenance: the grip is autoclaved ONLY with steam, on standard cycle B at 134°C. DO NOT use hot air autoclave and DO NOT use alkaline or acidic cleaning agents with strong bases (very high or very low pH) — these damage the grip and void the warranty. The cartridge/needle is a single-use consumable and is discarded after each client, while the grip is reusable but must be sterilized between clients. As with any tattooing session, use protective barriers (grip cover, sleeve on clip cord) to prevent cross-contamination.

Frequently asked questions

Does the grip work on any tattoo machine?

No. It is designed for the InkMachines Scorpion machine, with its specific 30° bayonet connection. It is delivered for Neo cartridges, but can also be used with standard cartridges if you add the Grip Adaptor NR.146, purchased separately. On other machines, I cannot guarantee a correct fit.

What are Neo cartridges and why do they matter?

Neo is InkMachines' cartridge system. On this grip, Neo cartridges have a 90° fit that is smoother and more secure than the 30° fit of standard cartridges. The Scorpion machine also accepts standard cartridges, but for these you need the Grip Adaptor NR.146.

Can I autoclave this grip?

Yes. It is sterilized by steam autoclaving on standard cycle B at 134°C. Very important: do not use hot air autoclave and do not use alkaline or acidic cleaning agents with strong bases, because they damage the grip and void the warranty. Being one-piece, with no seams, it cleans and sterilizes easily.

Does the grip come with needles or cartridges?

This product is the grip itself. Neo cartridges and needles are separate consumables and are chosen according to your work. For standard cartridges you also need the Grip Adaptor NR.146, purchased separately.

What is it made of and where is it manufactured?

It is made from 7075 grade anodized aluminum, 'aerospace' quality, and is manufactured in Sweden. The weight indicated in the description is 17 g, making it a lightweight grip. The anodizing provides corrosion resistance and a texture that aids grip.

Why should I choose the 22mm diameter?

The 22mm diameter offers a slim, thinner grip, appreciated for fine control in lining, fine-line, dotwork, and technical details. The choice of diameter depends on personal preference, hand size, and working style — a larger diameter provides a fuller grip, more comfortable for long shading sessions.

Product description

Scorpion grip 22mm Anodized Aluminium Scorpion Grips have a 30 degree bayonet fitting instead of a multi turn thread for better fitting on the machine. It allows the needle adjustment to be made "on the fly" at the top of the machine instead of turning the handle and the needle depth is preserved when the grip is removed and re-fitted to the machine. This feature also makes sure that the battery and needle stays aligned when the needle is adjusted. Neo-cartridges offer a more smooth and secure 90 degree fitting to the grip than the 30 degree type that the regular cartridge type have. Delivered for Neo-cartridges but can also be used with regular cartridges with Grip Adapter NO.146 ( purchased seperately ). Made from 7075 grade " Aircraft quality "Standard B-cycle steam autoclavable @ 134deg C.* Do NOT use hot air autoclave and do NOT use alkaline or acid cleaning agents with strong bases (high or low pH). Doing so will damage the grips and warranty will be void.
