Guide & full description

Complete guide: Set of 11 stainless steel tattoo tips

A kit of 11 reusable stainless steel tips for classic tattoo setups with bar needles, mounted via the traditional tube + grip system. It covers both round sizes (3R, 5R, 7R, 9R, 14R) and flat sizes (5F, 7F, 9F, 11F, 13F, 15F) in a single purchase, so you have the right tip for lines, shading, or filling. It is designed for artists who work with traditional machines and prefer reusable, autoclavable equipment, as well as a complete backup in the studio.

How to use

  1. Choose the tip that matches the needle configuration you are using: R (round) tips for round needle groupings, F (flat) tips for needles arranged in a straight line. The number in the notation corresponds to the needle grouping size.
  2. Check the fit of the needle in the tip before the session: the needle should slide freely through the channel, without friction, but also without excessive play at the opening.
  3. Mount the tip onto the machine's grip according to the tube attachment system, then insert the needle bar through the assembly and secure it on the machine.
  4. Adjust the needle protrusion from the tip according to your working technique and check the needle alignment in the opening before starting.
  5. Work normally — the tip guides the needle and holds ink at the tip; rinse the tip when changing colors to avoid contaminating pigments.
  6. Immediately after the session, disassemble the assembly and mechanically remove ink residues before they have a chance to dry inside.
  7. Clean the tips in an ultrasonic bath, then sterilize them in an autoclave, packed in sterilization pouches.
  8. Store them sealed in sterilization pouches until the next use and visually inspect them before each assembly.

Tips from us

  • Organize your set by type: R sizes are typically used with round groupings for lines and details, while F sizes with flat needles for shading and surface coverage — label the box or pouches to quickly find the correct size.
  • Never let ink dry inside the tip — rinsing immediately after the session greatly shortens cleaning time and maintains consistent ink flow.
  • Use a dedicated brush for the inside of the tubes: residues in the channel are hard to see but directly affect needle guidance and ink flow.
  • Inspect the opening of each tip after sterilization cycles — a tip with a deformed opening or deep internal scratches must be retired.
  • Keep the complete set even if you currently only work with 2-3 sizes: the rest of the tips are an immediate backup if one gets damaged in the middle of a workday.
  • Keep a simple record of sterilization cycles (date on the sealed pouch) — so you always know the tip you are assembling is sterile.
Warning: Reusable tips come into direct contact with ink and client fluids, so complete sterilization between clients is mandatory: mechanical cleaning, ultrasonic bath, and autoclaving in sterilization pouches. Simply wiping with alcohol or disinfectant is NOT sufficient for an instrument that has been in the work area. Never reuse a non-sterilized tip and retire any tip with a damaged opening — hygiene and tip integrity directly protect client health.

Frequently asked questions

What do the notations 3R, 9F, and the other sizes in the set mean?

The letter indicates the shape of the tip opening, and the number corresponds to the needle grouping size the tip is used with. R (round) has a round opening and is used with round needle groupings — in the set you have 3R, 5R, 7R, 9R, and 14R. F (flat) has a flat opening and is used with needles arranged in a straight line — in the set you have 5F, 7F, 9F, 11F, 13F, and 15F. In total, the 11 tips cover both line work and details, as well as shading and filling on surfaces.

Are they compatible with my machine? Do they work on pen machines with cartridges?

The tips are intended for machines that work with traditional bar needles, using the traditional tube + grip attachment system — meaning coil machines and rotaries that use this system. They are not for pen machines with cartridges: with cartridges, the tip is already integrated into the cartridge and separate tips are not used. Before ordering, simply check if your machine works with bar needles and a grip with a tube — if so, choose the tip according to the size of the needles you use.

How do I properly sterilize them and how often?

After every client, without exception: disassemble the tip from the grip, mechanically remove ink residues while they are fresh, run the tip through an ultrasonic bath to clean the internal channel, then sterilize it in an autoclave, packed in a sterilization pouch. The product is fully autoclavable, so it withstands this protocol repeatedly. Keep the tips in sealed pouches until assembly — a tip removed from the pouch and unused must be re-sterilized.

How long do the tips last and when should they be replaced?

Being made of stainless steel, the tips are designed for long-term repeated use, with cleaning and autoclaving between sessions. You only replace them when visual inspection shows issues: a deformed or damaged opening, deep scratches inside the channel that disrupt ink flow or needle guidance. A quick check before each assembly tells you exactly when a tip needs to be retired — the rest of the set remains functional.

Does the set include needles or handles?

No, the set contains exclusively the 11 stainless steel tips. Bar needles are purchased separately, in configurations corresponding to the tip sizes you want to use, and the grip (handle) is also purchased separately if you don't already have one. Essentially, the tips in this kit complete an existing setup of machine + grip + bar needles.

Is the set worth it compared to buying tips individually?

If you work with a traditional setup, yes, for two practical reasons. First: you get the entire range of common sizes in one go, from 3R for fine work to 15F for surfaces, so you don't get stuck in the middle of a project because you're missing a size. Second: the extra tips serve as backups — you can have one tip being sterilized and another ready to assemble, and if one gets damaged, you have a replacement on hand. For beginners, the set also has the advantage of letting you discover which sizes you work most comfortably with before investing in individual pieces.

The set includes a comprehensive selection of Round Tips (RT) for lining and details, Diamond Tips (DT) for shading, and Flat Tips (FT) for filling and uniform coverage. This combination covers all tattoo techniques from fine lines to large area fills. What material are the tips in the set made from? The tips are manufactured from high-quality surgical-grade stainless steel, the same standard used in medical instruments. This material offers exceptional corrosion resistance, long-term durability, and full compatibility with autoclave sterilization at temperatures up to 134 degrees Celsius. Are the tips compatible with all tattoo machines? Yes, the tips are compatible with most coil and rotary tattoo machines using standard tube grip systems. The standardized dimensions ensure compatibility with the most popular grips on the market. Check your machine specifications to confirm it uses a standard tube system. How should the stainless steel tips be properly sterilized? The recommended process includes ultrasonic cleaning to remove ink and tissue residues, followed by autoclave sterilization at 134 degrees Celsius for a minimum of 18 minutes. Stainless steel tips withstand unlimited sterilization cycles without degradation. Each tip should be visually inspected before reuse. Is it more economical to buy the set than individual tips? Yes, purchasing the complete 11-piece set offers significant savings compared to buying each configuration individually. Additionally, you are guaranteed to have all sizes needed for any type of work, eliminating interruptions caused by missing a specific tip. How often do stainless steel tips need to be replaced? Quality stainless steel tips can last years with proper maintenance. Replacement is necessary only when visible wear signs appear, such as deep interior scratches that could affect ink flow or deterioration of the tip opening. Regular visual inspection is recommended. What is the difference between RT, DT, and FT tips? RT (Round Tip) has a round opening used for lining and details. DT (Diamond Tip) has a diamond-shaped opening ideal for shading. FT (Flat Tip) has a flat opening used for uniform fills and large area coverage. Each type serves a specific purpose in tattooing. Can I use these tips with pen machines? No, these stainless steel tips are designed for traditional tattoo machines (coil and rotary) that use standard tube and grip systems. Modern pen machines use cartridges with integrated tips and do not require separate tips. Check your machine type before purchasing. Do the tips come with needles included? No, the set contains exclusively the stainless steel tips. Tattoo needles must be purchased separately and are single-use consumables. Choose needles with the configuration matching the tip used: round needles for RT tips, flat needles for FT tips, etc. How do I choose the right tip for my tattoo style? For lining and outlines, choose RT tips with low needle count (3RT-7RT). For shading and portraits, DT tips are ideal. For fills and color packing, FT tips offer maximum coverage. The number indicates how many needles are grouped: a higher number means a wider working surface. The 11-piece set provides all configurations needed.
