Guide & full description
Complete guide: Xtreme Ink Dark Flesh 30ml
This is a professional tattoo ink from the Xtreme Ink range, in a 30 ml bottle, with a warm, deep brown shade from the skin tone family. It is aimed at artists working in portraits and realism, especially on darker skin tones, where deep shadows and warm, natural transitions are needed. It comes ready to use straight from the bottle, without dilution, and can be used both as a standalone shade and in mixes to build your own tone scale.
How to use
- Check the bottle before the session: it should be properly sealed, the label legible, and the cap intact. A damaged or unsealed bottle should not be used.
- Shake the bottle well before each use. Pigments can settle over time, and proper homogenization gives you a consistent shade from the start to the end of the session.
- Prepare your workstation: new gloves, protective barriers on the machine, clip cord, and bottle, plus individual disposable ink caps for each client.
- Pour from the bottle directly into the cap only the estimated amount for that work. Never insert the needle, tip, or any other tool into the bottle — that's how the entire bottle gets contaminated.
- Close the cap immediately after pouring to avoid evaporation and airborne contamination.
- Use it as is, without dilution. If you want intermediate shades, mix it with other inks from the same range in a separate cap and note down your proportions.
- Work in controlled passes. Since the saturation on the first pass is good, avoid excessively reworking the same area just 'to make it darker' — overworking affects healing quality.
- At the end, discard the remaining ink in the cap along with the cap. Never pour it back into the bottle, no matter how much is left.
Tips from us
- On darker skin tones, contrast reads differently than on light skin. Judge the values in good light and, if this is your first work with this shade, do a test on synthetic skin to see how it settles.
- Keep a few complementary shades from the same range nearby. Portrait transitions come out much cleaner when you have a scale of tones, not a single brown you try to 'dilute' through technique.
- Note down your mixing recipes (how many drops of each) in a notebook or phone. Without them, you won't be able to reproduce the exact same shade for the touch-up session.
- Rotate your stock: use older opened bottles first and periodically check the expiration date on the label.
- Record the batch used in each client's file. This is a standard traceability practice in serious studios and helps if any questions arise later.
- Store the bottle at room temperature, away from direct light and heat sources, with the cap tightly closed.
Frequently asked questions
What type of machine can I use this ink with?▾
It is compatible with all types of tattoo machines — coil, rotary, and pen. The consistency ensures a steady flow, regardless of the needle configuration you use. Practically, you don't need special settings just for this ink: stick to the voltage and technique you usually work with and adjust, as always, based on the skin and the type of work.
Does it need to be diluted or mixed with anything before use?▾
No. It is ready to use straight from the bottle, without dilution or mandatory mixing. The only necessary step before each session is to shake the bottle well so the pigment is evenly distributed. You only mix if you intentionally want an intermediate shade, not because the product requires it.
Can it be mixed with other inks to get intermediate shades?▾
Yes, it mixes well with other inks from the Xtreme range, and this is actually the recommended way to work for portraits: you build your own scale of tones, from the deepest shadow to light transitions. Always mix in a clean, separate cap, not in the bottle, and note down your proportions so you can reproduce the shade for touch-ups. If you mix with inks from another manufacturer, test on synthetic skin first — there is no guarantee they will behave the same.
How do I store it and avoid contaminating the bottle?▾
Store it at room temperature, away from direct light and heat, with the cap tightly closed. The essential hygiene rule: pour into individual disposable caps, one for each client, and never insert the needle or any tool into the bottle. Any leftover ink in the cap at the end of the work is discarded with the cap — it is not recovered or poured back. Apply a protective barrier on the bottle if you keep it in the work area, and wipe it with disinfectant between clients.
What kind of work is this shade suitable for?▾
It is designed for portraits and realism: deep shadows, warm brown transitions, and shaded areas on natural skin tones, especially darker ones. It is not a 'linework' or blackwork shade — its role is to build volume and depth. If you do a lot of portrait work, it makes sense as part of a set of skin tones, not as a standalone purchase.
I'm a beginner — is this a good ink for me?▾
Technically yes, because it requires no dilution and has a consistent flow, so it doesn't add extra variables. The hard part is not about the product but the application: skin tones and portrait shading are among the most demanding tasks, especially on dark skin, where values read differently. Practice first on synthetic skin, in good light, until you understand how the shade settles and how much you need to work to get the desired density.
What does the color look like after healing?▾
As with any tattoo ink, the shade fades slightly and naturally during the healing process, and the final result is only assessed after complete healing — not on the day of the session. How well it holds depends largely on the implantation technique, the client's skin type, sun exposure, and the quality of aftercare. Discuss aftercare and a possible touch-up session with the client from the start.
