Complete guide: A4 POLARIZED FILM
The A4 polarized film is an optical photography accessory, not a product that comes into contact with the client's skin: a TAC+PVA polarizing film, A4 size (approx. 30x20 cm), neutral gray color, with high transmission in the parallel position and almost complete blocking in the crossed position (according to the manufacturer's specifications). It is used to eliminate reflections and shine from tattooed skin in photographs, so that the ink colors and fine line details come out correctly in the image. It is useful for any artist or PMU technician who photographs fresh or healed work for portfolio, documentation, or social media, by mounting the film on the camera lens and/or on the light source.
How to use
- Cut with scissors or a cutter a piece from the A4 film (approx. 30x20 cm) to the size of your camera/phone lens or the light source you want to filter.
- Secure the cut piece on the lens with adhesive tape or a filter ring/adapter, making sure to completely cover the area through which light enters.
- If you want an even stronger effect, cut a second piece and secure it on the light source used for photography (flash, LED panel, photo lamp).
- Look through the viewfinder or screen and gently rotate the film on the lens, following the polarization axis marked on the film, until the shine on the skin visibly decreases.
- Also adjust the camera angle relative to the light source — reflections are reduced most at a certain incidence angle, not just by rotating the filter.
- Take a few test shots and compare them before the actual photo session, to find the optimal angle-rotation combination.
- After use, store the leftover film pieces flat, protected from scratches, bends, heat, and direct sunlight, so they can be reused.

- Combine a filter on the light source with one on the lens for maximum reflection elimination, not just a single filter.
- Handle the film by the edges and avoid leaving fingerprints on the surface — finger grease reduces the optical clarity of the filter.
- Rotate the filter slowly during the test frame, because the polarizing effect varies strongly with the rotation angle.
- Keep the remaining pieces between two sheets of paper or cardboard, flat, protected from scratches and moisture, until next use.
- For comparable photos throughout the healing process, use the same filter orientation and the same shooting angle at each session.
