Complete guide: Graduated eyebrow ruler with nose support
The graduated eyebrow ruler with nose bridge support is a measuring and mapping tool used in microblading and micropigmentation to establish the shape, position, and symmetry of the eyebrows before outlining. The nose bridge support rests on the client's nasal bridge, providing a fixed reference point centered on the facial axis, instead of a visual estimate. It is useful for both beginner PMU artists and experienced ones who require repeatable measurements. It is made of transparent, flexible plastic with millimeter graduations on both sides.
How to use
- Place the nose bridge support of the ruler on the client's nasal bridge, with the client seated upright, head relaxed, in a natural position.
- Center the ruler on the median axis of the face so that both graduated sides start symmetrically from the same point.
- Check the stability of the ruler on the nasal bridge before starting measurements to prevent it from slipping during work.
- Use the millimeter graduations on each side to measure the distance from the center to the head, arch, and tail of the eyebrow, one at a time, for each side of the face.
- Mark the obtained key points (start, arch point, end) with a dermograph pencil.
- Compare the measured values on the left side with those on the right side to confirm symmetry.
- Connect the marked points to sketch the final eyebrow shape before proceeding with the blade or dermopigmentation pen.
- After completing the mapping, dispose of the ruler if it is single-use or sanitize it if it is reusable, according to the material it is made of.
Tips from us
- Take measurements with the client sitting upright and looking straight ahead — a tilted head position can distort the calculated symmetry.
- Always compare the two graduated sides before moving to the actual outlining; a few millimeters error in the center is clearly visible in the final result.
- For faces with atypical nasal anatomy, combine the ruler with other reference methods (symmetry compass, string) instead of relying on a single measurement.
- Do not press or rub the markings excessively during the procedure to maintain the visibility of the graduations throughout the mapping.
- Keep the ruler clean and dry between uses, away from traces of pigment or cosmetic products that could hinder reading the markings.
Frequently asked questions
What advantage does the nose bridge support of the ruler offer?▾
The nose bridge support provides a fixed reference point on the client's nasal bridge, replacing the visual estimation of the face's center. Essentially, the ruler self-centers, and measurements on both sides start from the same point, reducing the risk of asymmetry between eyebrows.
Is the ruler single-use or can it be reused?▾
It depends on the material the particular model is made of — it can be single-use or reusable with disinfection between clients. For maximum hygiene in the studio, the general recommendation is either to use a dedicated ruler for each client or to thoroughly disinfect it with approved solutions before reuse.
Does it fit any nose shape?▾
The flexible material allows the ruler to adapt to most nasal bridge shapes and widths. In cases of more unusual anatomy, the artist can manually adjust the position or combine the ruler with other measurement methods for a safe result.
Is it suitable for a beginner artist?▾
Yes. Precisely because it eliminates some difficult visual estimates, the ruler with nose bridge support provides a clear and measurable guide for eyebrow positioning, especially useful while the eye is not yet trained to quickly detect asymmetries.
What is it specifically used for in the microblading procedure?▾
It is used in the pre-drawing stage, when the artist and client together establish the shape and position of the eyebrows, before starting work with the blade or dermopigmentation pen. Accurate mapping at this stage is what supports the symmetry of the final result.
Can it be used for other micropigmentation procedures?▾
Although it is primarily designed for eyebrows, the nose bridge support provides a useful central point for other facial landmarks, for example as a reference aid for lip contour or permanent eyeliner alignment.
