Complete guide: AptoGrip Stainless steel 22mm
This reusable stainless steel grip (handle) is part of the AptoGrip range from Ink Machines and is designed for tattoo artists who work with cartridge-type tips. It has a diameter of 22 mm and a precise needle projection adjustment system over a 4 mm stroke, controlled by a nut accessible even while working. It is designed not to rotate relative to the machine, ensuring a stable position throughout the session, and can be sterilized in an autoclave for reuse.
How to use
- Ensure the handle is sterile before use — sterilize it in a steam autoclave on cycle B at 134°C.
- Mount the grip onto your machine's backstem (8 mm tube). Since it is designed not to pivot relative to the machine, secure it in a safe position.
- Insert a standard 8 mm tip into the grip — disposable plastic tips (cartridges) are recommended.
- Adjust the needle projection by turning the adjustment nut, over the 4 mm stroke, which remains conveniently accessible while working.
- Use the reference marks on the tube to reproduce the exact same length with each setup.
- At the end of the session, remove and discard the disposable tip.
- Clean the handle, then sterilize it again in a steam autoclave (cycle B, 134°C) before the next client; it can also be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath.
Tips from us
- Use a new disposable tip for each client and discard it immediately after — never reuse tips between clients.
- Rely on the reference marks on the tube to quickly recreate the same length configuration, session after session.
- The 22 mm diameter provides a fuller grip, and the weight of the stainless steel gives a solid feel in the hand — useful for consistent pressure during lining and shading.
- If you are unsure about compatibility, first check if your machine accepts handles with a standard 8 mm backstem.
- Completely avoid cleaning solutions with extreme pH (strong bases or acids) and hot air autoclaves — they degrade the handle and void the warranty.
Warning: Sterilize the grip between clients exclusively in a steam autoclave (cycle B, 134°C) — do not use hot air autoclaves. Do not use alkaline or strong acid-based cleaning agents (high or low pH), as they damage the handle and void the 1-year warranty. Always use a new disposable tip for each client to prevent cross-contamination.
Frequently asked questions
What material is the handle made of?▾
It is the stainless steel (Inox) version of the AptoGrip range. Stainless steel withstands repeated sterilization and corrosion well, which is why it is preferred for reusable studio instruments. The AptoGrip range also includes an aluminum variant for those who prefer a lighter handle.
How do I clean and sterilize it correctly?▾
Clean it, then sterilize it in a steam autoclave on cycle B at 134°C; it can also be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath. Do not use hot air autoclaves or solutions with extreme pH (strong alkaline or acidic), as they damage the handle and void the warranty.
What tips and machines is it compatible with?▾
Use standard 8 mm tips, preferably disposable plastic ones, and it accepts configurations up to 17 Magnum (0.35). It has an 8 mm backstem and fits most tattoo machines; if you have a less common machine, check the mounting type first before ordering.
What does the 4 mm adjustment mean?▾
You adjust the needle projection by turning the adjustment nut, over a 4 mm stroke, even while working. Since the handle does not pivot relative to the machine, the adjustment remains stable and does not change accidentally during the session.
Stainless steel or aluminum — which variant should I choose?▾
It depends on personal preference. The stainless steel version is heavier and offers a more solid and stable feel in the hand, appreciated by artists who do a lot of lining. Aluminum is lighter, which some prefer for very long sessions. Both are sterilized in an autoclave in the same way.
What does the package include and does it have a warranty?▾
The package includes one AptoGrip Inox 22 mm handle and one hex key for tightening the tip. The product is made in Sweden and has a 1-year warranty.

The Apto Grip Inox 22mm is a professional grip made from 316L surgical stainless steel with a 22mm diameter, designed for tattoo artists who prefer the superior weight and stability of stainless steel combined with a slim hold for maximum control. 316L stainless steel is the same material used in surgical instruments and medical implants, guaranteeing absolute resistance to corrosion, sterilization, and chemicals used in tattoo studios. The greater weight of stainless steel compared to aluminum provides superior tactile feedback — many artists report that the additional weight helps stabilize the hand and maintain constant pressure, essential for uniform lines and consistent shading. The 22mm diameter allows a slim, precise hold ideal for styles such as fine-line, single needle, dotwork, geometric, and technical lettering. The satin stainless steel surface provides excellent grip with nitrile or latex gloves without requiring aggressive texturing. Universal compatibility with all pen-style and rotary machines with standard backstem: Cheyenne, FK Irons, Bishop, InkMachines, Dragonhawk, EZ, and others. Monobloc stainless steel construction completely eliminates seams and bacterial accumulation zones. Autoclavable indefinitely at 134C/2 bar without any degradation — 316L stainless steel is practically indestructible under standard sterilization conditions. The satin finish resists scratching and maintains a professional appearance indefinitely. Recommended for studios prioritizing absolute durability — a single Apto Grip Inox 22mm lasts an artist's entire career, representing the most efficient long-term investment in working equipment. Perfect for professional environments.
