Complete guide: Inkmachines Scorpion X2 For Regular Cartridges BLAZING GOLD

This is the second generation of the Scorpion series from Ink Machines: a rotary pen-style machine made in Sweden, with a newly developed Swiss motor, a Blazing Gold finish, and a sealed magnetic drive designed for better hygiene. Weighing only 120 g (including the grip) with very low vibration, it is aimed at professional artists who work long sessions and want a lightweight machine compatible with standard cartridge needles. It works with standard 0–12 V DC power supplies and is ready for wireless operation.

How to use

  1. Before the session, inspect the machine: check that the grip is securely attached via the bayonet mount and briefly run it to verify the built-in status LED indicates normal operation.
  2. Fully cover it with a disposable protective barrier (machine wrap), including the cable if working corded.
  3. Mount the grip — either the standard 22 mm aluminum grip included in the set (sanitized according to manufacturer's instructions) or a disposable grip — then insert a standard cartridge needle; the machine accepts configurations up to 27 magnum.
  4. Connect the machine to the power source via RCA or clipcord; power it at 0–12 V DC, without exceeding 12 V. For cordless operation, use the dedicated Powerpack X2 battery, sold separately.
  5. Power on the supply at a low voltage and gradually increase until you reach the speed suitable for your technique — the motor operates in the range of 0–8000 rpm with a 3.7 mm stroke.
  6. Adjust the needle protrusion from the grip tip to the desired working length and do a brief test before starting on skin.
  7. After the session, dispose of the cartridge needle in a sharps container, remove the barriers and disposable grip, then clean and disinfect the machine body with a surface product without submerging it in liquid.
  8. Periodically perform maintenance with the included No. 90 Precision kit and lubricate the mechanism with the machine oil from the package, following the manufacturer's instructions.

Tips from us

  • Write down the voltages you find comfortable for lining, shading, and packing — this allows you to quickly replicate your settings in future sessions.
  • The weight of only 120 g with grip reduces hand fatigue during long projects; still take regular breaks — posture matters as much as equipment.
  • If you plan to work wirelessly, order the Powerpack X2 along with the machine — it is not included in the set.
  • The sealed (Gold) magnetic drive isolates hard-to-clean components, but does not replace protective barriers — use them for every client.
  • Check the cartridge size before a large project: the machine's limit is 27 magnum.
  • Keep the box and proof of purchase — the product has a 1-year warranty.
Warning: The tattoo machine must not be sterilized in an autoclave and must not be submerged in liquids — sanitize it using disposable barriers and surface disinfectant, and cartridge needles are for single use only and must be disposed of in a sharps container. Do not exceed an input voltage of 12 V DC. Tattooing carries a risk of infection if hygiene standards are not followed — this equipment is intended for trained individuals working in accordance with applicable legal regulations.

Frequently asked questions

What needles are compatible with this machine?

It works with standard cartridge needles, with a maximum size of 27 magnum — so it covers everything from fine lines to wide shading configurations. The grips attach via a bayonet mount: the set includes a standard 22 mm aluminum grip, and the manufacturer also offers disposable grips (30 mm version), useful when you want maximum hygiene without reprocessing.

Can I use it wirelessly?

Yes, the machine is Wireless Ready: it has a connection for cordless operation with the dedicated Powerpack X2 battery, sold separately. With a cable, it connects via RCA or clipcord and works with standard studio power supplies at 0–12 V DC.

How do I properly sanitize it between clients?

Use a new protective barrier for each client over the machine body and cable, plus a new cartridge needle every time. The disposable grip is discarded after the session; the aluminum grip is reprocessed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Wipe the machine body with surface disinfectant — do not submerge it in liquid or autoclave it. The sealed magnetic drive isolates hard-to-clean components, but does not replace these steps.

Is it suitable for both lining and shading?

Yes — the manufacturer recommends it for all techniques. The 3.7 mm stroke is a mid-range value considered versatile in practice, and the wide speed range (0–8000 rpm) allows you to adjust the machine's character via voltage: slower for fine shading, faster for lines and packing, according to your working preference.

What do I get in the package and what warranty do I have?

The set includes the machine with the standard 22 mm aluminum grip, the No. 90 Precision tool kit, and machine oil for maintenance. The warranty is 1 year from the date of purchase.

How does it differ from the same manufacturer's Cobra model?

The Scorpion X2 is significantly lighter (120 g vs. 200–270 g), has a pen format with a Swiss motor, and relies on disposable grips for hygiene. The Cobra features a larger integrated battery, active damping, and reusable grips. In short: choose the Scorpion for minimal weight and comfort during long sessions, and the Cobra for autonomy and robustness.
