Complete guide: Balm Tattoo - Color Maintenance Balm 100 ml
This is a long-term care balm, specially designed for fully healed tattoos: its role is to preserve the intensity and definition of colors months and years after the session. It has a 100% vegan formula, with a light texture, long-lasting hydration (up to 72 hours, according to the manufacturer) and active antioxidant ingredients that protect the pigment from factors that degrade it over time — dehydration, UV, pollution. It is useful both for clients who want their color tattoo to look fresh as long as possible, and for artists who want to recommend a proper maintenance routine after healing.
How to use
- Wait for the tattoo to fully heal — usually 4–6 weeks after the session, when there are no more scabs or sensitivity. This balm is NOT to be used on fresh tattoos.
- Wash your hands, then clean the tattooed area with lukewarm water and a mild soap; pat the skin dry, do not rub.
- Apply a small amount of balm to the tattoo — the light texture spreads easily, so you don't need a lot of product.
- Massage gently in circular motions until fully absorbed; the skin remains hydrated, supple, with a natural shine that enhances the colors.
- Repeat once a day — ideally in the morning, after showering, on clean, dry skin.
- You can use the product as a daily moisturizing lotion for face and body, not just strictly on the tattooed area.
- Continue the routine long-term: color maintenance is an ongoing process, and the 100 ml bottle covers several months of daily use on a medium-sized tattoo.
Tips from us
- Start the maintenance routine as soon as possible after complete healing — the earlier the pigment is protected, the better the long-term result.
- Pay special attention to warm tones: yellow, orange, red, pink, and white are most sensitive to fading, so they benefit most from regular care.
- During intense sun exposure (beach, mountains), additionally use a cream with SPF on the tattoo — the balm provides antioxidant protection but does not replace a dedicated sunscreen product.
- Dry skin makes any tattoo look dull and faded — consistency of daily application matters more than the amount used per application.
- Do not use it in place of an aftercare product on a fresh tattoo: each product has its role, in its phase — aftercare for healing, maintenance balm after.
- Keep the bottle closed, in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight, so the formula remains stable throughout its use.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this balm on a fresh tattoo, during the healing period?▾
No. This is a post-healing maintenance product, not an aftercare. In the first weeks, the tattoo is essentially a healing wound and needs products dedicated to this phase. Switch to the maintenance balm only after complete healing — usually 4–6 weeks after the session, when the skin no longer has scabs and is no longer sensitive.
How often should I apply the balm and when?▾
One application per day is enough for maintenance — ideally in the morning, after a shower, on clean, dry skin. The formula provides long-lasting hydration (up to 72 hours, according to the manufacturer), so there is no need for repeated reapplications in the same day under normal conditions. The important thing is to be consistent, day after day.
How does it differ from a regular body lotion? Why can't I just use my day cream?▾
Unlike generic lotions, this formula is designed for tattooed skin: it contains no exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA), which accelerate pigment loss, no irritating synthetic fragrances, parabens or petrolatum, and includes antioxidant ingredients that combat pigment degradation caused by UV and pollution. A regular cream hydrates, but may contain exactly the ingredients that a tattoo tolerates poorly in the long term.
Which tattoo colors benefit the most from this product?▾
All colors benefit from optimal hydration, because supple and smooth skin allows the pigment in the dermis to be seen at maximum intensity. However, the most sensitive to fading are warm tones — yellow, orange, red, pink, and white — so on color tattoos with such tones, the difference made by regular care is most visible. Black and dark blue are more stable, but they also look better on well-hydrated skin.
Is it suitable for vegans or for sensitive skin?▾
The formula is 100% vegan, free of parabens, petrolatum, and irritating synthetic fragrances, with a light texture for daily use on face and body. As with any new cosmetic product, if you have reactive skin, it's prudent to first test on a small area and monitor the reaction for 24 hours before using it on large areas.
How long does a 100 ml bottle last and how do I store it properly?▾
With one application per day on a medium-sized tattoo, the 100 ml bottle covers several months of use. To keep it in good condition throughout this time: apply it only with clean hands, close the cap after each use, and store it in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and heat.
