Complete guide: Tattoo Dip Foam 1 pieces

The DipFoam sponge cap is a disposable cap with a sponge insert, designed specifically for quickly cleaning tattoo needles of ink when switching or mixing colors during work. Unlike traditional caps filled with water, it is used dry: the sponge absorbs ink directly from the needle. It's ideal for any tattoo artist working with multiple colors in a single session who wants a faster, cleaner cleaning without water residue on the station.

How to use

  1. Place the DipFoam cap in the cap holder on the arm of your work station, within easy reach, alongside the other ink caps.
  2. Do not add water or any other liquid to the sponge — unlike regular color caps, it is used dry.
  3. When you want to change color or just remove excess ink from the needle, gently touch the needle tip to the sponge with short movements.
  4. The sponge quickly absorbs the remaining ink on the needle, cleaning more efficiently than a water rinse and without leaving residue.
  5. Repeat the process each time you switch from one color to another during the same session.
  6. At the end of a client's session, discard the used cap — it is a disposable product, not to be saved for another time.
  7. For each new client, open a new DipFoam cap, along with the rest of the sterile/disposable supplies.

Tips from us

  • Prepare several DipFoam caps on your station before starting the session, especially if you work with many color shades.
  • Use it as a quick method for cleaning the needle between colors; for very ink-heavy tips, some artists combine with a short water rinse.
  • Check the sponge periodically — once fully saturated with ink, it no longer absorbs effectively, so it's time to switch to a new cap.
  • Keep it in a stable cap holder so it doesn't tip over or slide on the work table during the session.
  • Order them in sufficient quantity for the number of clients/sessions planned, as they are a disposable consumable.
Warning: It is a disposable product: do not reuse it on multiple clients or keep it for a later session to avoid cross-contamination. Discard it after each session, along with other used consumables, following your studio's hygiene rules. It is not intended for direct contact with skin.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a DipFoam cap and how is it different from a regular ink cap?

It is a cap with a sponge insert inside, used dry to quickly wipe/absorb excess ink from the needle. Regular color caps are filled with liquid ink that you work from; DipFoam is not filled with ink, but serves exclusively for cleaning the needle between colors.

Can the DipFoam cap be reused on multiple clients or multiple sessions?

No. It is a disposable product (consumable), like most caps and small accessories used directly in the tattooing process. It is discarded after each session to prevent cross-contamination between clients.

Do I need to put water or other liquid in the sponge before using it?

No, the sponge is used dry. That is exactly its role — to absorb ink directly from the needle, faster and without the residue that water cleaning can leave.

How often should the cap be changed during a session?

It depends on how many colors you use and how saturated the sponge becomes. If you notice it no longer absorbs ink effectively (it stays soaked and the ink is no longer taken up by the sponge), it's time to switch to a new cap, even within the same session if needed.

Does it fit in any cap holder I already have on my station?

DipFoam caps have the general shape of a standard tattoo cap, so they usually fit in regular cap holders. If you use a holder with a very specific design, quickly check the size of caps it accepts before ordering large quantities.

Is it worth completely replacing water cleaning with this DipFoam system?

It depends on your workflow: DipFoam is designed to be faster and leave no residue, especially useful for frequent color changes. Many artists use it as their primary method for cleaning the needle between colors, keeping water for situations where a more thorough rinse is needed.
