Guide & full description

Complete guide: Cheyenne SOL Luna

This is a professional rotary tattoo machine from Cheyenne, designed especially for precision shading and filling. The brushless motor (BLDC) makes it quiet and with reduced vibrations compared to conventional machines, which helps with long sessions without fatigue. It is suitable for artists who work with black and grey, color realism, dotwork and pepper shading and who want fine control over shadows and transitions.

How to use

  1. Mount a Cheyenne screw-on grip — a SOL grip in size S, M or L, or a Hawk grip. Note: the grip is not included and must be ordered separately.
  2. Insert a cartridge needle into the grip and adjust the needle protrusion depth according to technique; the depth is adjustable up to a maximum of 4.0 mm.
  3. Connect the machine to a Cheyenne power supply via the 3.5 mm jack connector.
  4. Set the frequency on the power supply: lower (from 25 Hz) for dotwork, delicate shading and color realism; higher (up to 150 Hz) for intense lines.
  5. Choose the operating mode: HardDrive (Steady) for a constant and controlled stroke regardless of conditions, or SENSIDRIVE (Responsive), activated via SensiSwitch, so the machine self-adapts to the skin's tension and hardness.
  6. Test the settings on synthetic skin (practice skin) before starting work on a client, to confirm the appropriate frequency and mode.
  7. After the session, dispose of the single-use cartridge needle, then clean and disinfect the machine and grip according to the hygiene protocol.

Tips from us

  • Use lower frequencies for dotwork, fine shading and color realism, and higher frequencies for intense lines — the range goes from 25 to 150 Hz.
  • SENSIDRIVE mode is useful when tattooing areas with varying skin hardness, because it automatically modulates the stroke; use HardDrive when you want total consistency without variations.
  • The 2.5 mm stroke is optimized for shading and black and grey — keep this in mind when choosing the machine for a particular style.
  • Protect the machine with a cover and the cable with a sleeve for each client, to prevent cross-contamination.
  • The grip is not included in the package — order a Cheyenne screw-on grip (SOL in S, M or L, or Hawk) in advance, so you have the machine ready for work.
Warning: As with any tattoo machine, strictly follow the hygiene protocol: use only sterile, single-use cartridge needles and never reuse them. Protect the machine and cable with barriers (machine cover, cable sleeve) for each client and disinfect surfaces between sessions. Reusable grips must be sterilized (autoclave) according to the manufacturer's instructions, and disposable ones must be discarded after use. Connect the machine only to compatible power supplies via the 3.5 mm jack connector.

Frequently asked questions

What stroke does it have and what styles is it suitable for?

It has a 2.5 mm stroke, optimized for shading and filling. It is ideal for black and grey, color realism and smooth transitions, and at low frequencies it works very well for dotwork and pepper shading.

Does it come with a grip included?

No, the grip is not included. You can customize the machine with Cheyenne screw-on grips: SOL, available in three sizes — S (22.4 mm), M (25.4 mm) and L (33.0 mm) — or Hawk grips.

What power supply can I use with it?

It is compatible with Cheyenne power supplies, via the 3.5 mm jack connector. Make sure you have a suitable 3.5 mm jack cable for the power source.

What do the two modes, HardDrive and SENSIDRIVE, mean?

HardDrive (Steady Mode) maintains a constant, controlled speed and stroke regardless of conditions. SENSIDRIVE (Responsive Mode), activated via SensiSwitch, self-adapts to the client's skin: stronger stroke on harder areas and weaker on softer ones.

How do I maintain and clean it?

Use protective barriers (machine cover, cable sleeve) for each client and disinfect the housing between sessions — the machine is easy to clean. Cartridge needles are single-use and disposable, and reusable grips are sterilized in an autoclave. The 3.5 mm jack connector is of the 'protected' type.

What needles does it use and what warranty does it have?

It uses professional cartridge needles, with adjustable protrusion depth up to 4.0 mm. The warranty is 12 months, and after a possible repair you receive an additional 6 months.

Product description

The SOL Luna comes without a grip and can be customized with SOL Grips in three different sizes: S - 22,4 mm, M - 25,4 mm and L - 33,0 mm or the HAWK Grips in S - 22,0 mm and M - 25,4 mm. We recommend using Cheyenne Cartridges with the patented Safety Membrane to avoid the backflow of fluids into the tattoo machine.
