Guide & full description

Complete guide: Recovery Numbing Cream 30ml

A 30 ml topical anesthetic cream, designed to reduce client discomfort during tattooing, piercing, and PMU procedures, as well as other minimally invasive aesthetic procedures. It contains 4% lidocaine HCl and contains no epinephrine, so it doesn't alter the skin's texture — you can continue working normally after application. According to the manufacturer, the effect sets in fully in about 15 minutes and can last up to 6 hours, with a cooling sensation that soothes the skin. It is useful both for artists who want to offer more comfortable sessions and for clients sensitive to pain.

How to use

  1. Thoroughly clean and degrease the skin area you are going to work on, then dry it completely.
  2. Perform a patch test on a small area of skin well in advance of the procedure to check that no adverse reaction occurs.
  3. With gloved hands, apply an even layer of cream to the work area, without touching the tip of the tube to the skin.
  4. Wait for the effect to set in — according to the manufacturer, maximum effect is achieved in approximately 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the cream completely and disinfect the area according to your usual protocol before starting work.
  6. If the session is long, the cream can also be used during the procedure, according to the manufacturer's instructions — apply to areas not yet worked on or following your own protocol.
  7. After the procedure, it can be used to soothe the area, having an action that reduces the skin's inflammatory response.
  8. Close the cap tightly after each use — the tube has a child-resistant cap and tamper-evident seal, check the seal upon first opening.

Tips from us

  • Plan the application timing: include the ~15 minutes for the effect to set in in your session schedule, so you don't work on an area that is still not numb.
  • The formula is non-greasy, but it's still worth wiping the area completely before the stencil — any cream residue can affect the adhesion of the transfer.
  • Dispense the cream from the tube onto a disposable surface (spatula, clean holder) instead of applying directly from the tube on different clients — this prevents cross-contamination.
  • Being epinephrine-free, it does not alter the skin's texture, so you can properly assess the skin during work — an advantage for fine lines and PMU.
  • Communicate constantly with the client: the anesthetic effect varies from person to person, and their feedback helps you adapt the pace of the session.
  • Keep the tube closed, out of reach of children, even though it has a child-resistant cap.
Warning: The product is exclusively for topical (external) use. Do not apply it to damaged, irritated skin or mucous membranes and avoid contact with eyes. Contains lidocaine — do not use on individuals with a known allergy to local anesthetics; a preliminary patch test on a small area is mandatory upon first use. Always apply with gloves and avoid contaminating the tube between clients. If intense redness, persistent stinging, or any other unusual reaction occurs, stop use and remove the cream. This guide does not replace the instructions on the package nor medical advice — in case of doubts (pregnancy, skin conditions, ongoing treatments), the client should consult a specialist beforehand.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to take effect and how long does it last?

According to the manufacturer, maximum effect sets in approximately 15 minutes after application, and the anesthetic action can last up to 6 hours. The actual duration varies from person to person, depending on skin type and the area applied, so it's good to check with the client before starting work.

Can I use it during the session, not just beforehand?

Yes. The product is indicated by the manufacturer for use before and during tattooing, piercing, and PMU procedures, and can also be used after the procedure to soothe the area. Being epinephrine-free, it does not alter the skin's texture, so you can continue tattooing without issues after application.

Does the cream affect the stencil or the ink?

The formula is non-greasy and contains no epinephrine, so it does not change the skin's texture. However, as with any anesthetic cream, the basic rule is to completely remove the product and disinfect the area before applying the stencil — any film left on the skin can weaken the adhesion of the transfer.

How do I use it hygienically for multiple clients?

Do not apply directly from the tube onto the client's skin. Dispense the necessary amount with gloves onto a spatula or a disposable surface and apply from there, without touching the tube tip to the skin. Wipe the tube after use and keep it closed. This way a single tube can be used in the studio without risk of cross-contamination.

Is it suitable for piercing or PMU as well, or just for tattoos?

It is designed for all three: tattooing, piercing, and PMU. The manufacturer also indicates it for injections, minimally invasive aesthetic procedures, cosmetic procedures, or laser treatments. For any use outside the tattoo studio, follow the instructions on the package and the specific protocols of that procedure.

I'm a beginner and I want to use it on myself before a tattoo. Is it okay?

The product is an OTC anesthetic agent (FDA registered in the USA), for topical use. First perform a patch test on a small area of skin in advance, do not apply it on irritated or damaged skin, and follow the instructions on the package. Best to also inform the artist that you used anesthetic cream — they need to know to prepare the skin correctly before the stencil.
