Proper collection of contaminated waste is not optional in a tattoo studio — it's a legal obligation verified by the DSP (Public Health Directorate). This 10-liter corrugated cardboard box, delivered with an inner bag marked with the Biohazard symbol, provides you with a compliant container for soft biological waste: used gloves, compresses with blood and ink, protective barriers, and disposable drapes. It is sized for individual artists and small or moderate-volume studios, and at the end, it is handed over entirely to the authorized collection company.
How to use
- Assemble the cardboard box following the pre-formed folds and make sure the bottom is securely closed and stable — the box measures 21 × 21 × 25 cm and has a capacity of 10 liters.
- Insert the included Biohazard bag (60 × 50 cm) inside and fold its edges over the rim of the box, so that waste does not directly touch the cardboard.
- Place the box in the work area, within easy reach of the artist, but outside the sterile zone and the space accessible to clients.
- Dispose exclusively of soft biological waste: contaminated gloves, compresses and towels with blood or ink, protective sleeves and covers, disposable aprons and sheets. Needles, cartridges, and blades have NO place here — they go separately, in the sharps container.
- Do not exceed the maximum allowed weight of 2.5 kg and do not fill the box to the brim — leave enough room so that the bag can be closed easily.
- When the box is full, seal the inner bag (tight knot or tie), then close the box lid. From this point on, it must not be opened.
- Hand over the sealed box entirely (bag + cardboard) to the authorized biological waste collection company with which the studio has a contract, according to the established schedule.
- Immediately set up a new box with a new bag, so that the work area does not remain without a compliant container.
Tips from us
- Always keep the sharps container next to the Biohazard box — waste separation at source is mandatory and becomes second nature only if both containers are equally accessible.
- Do not throw free liquids into the box: first absorb them in compresses or paper towels. The inner bag prevents leaks, but the base container is still cardboard.
- Keep the box on a dry surface, not directly on a wet floor — the cardboard is treated for moisture resistance, but there's no point in stressing it unnecessarily.
- Calculate your needs in advance: an artist working one session per day fills a 10 L box in approximately 5–10 days, so it's worth always having 2–3 spare boxes in stock.
- Synchronize box replacement with the collection company's pickup schedule, so you don't store full boxes in the studio longer than necessary.
- Keep records of handovers (documents from the collection company) — these are exactly the documents the DSP checks during inspections.

What waste am I allowed to put in this box and what not?▾
Only soft biological waste goes in the box: used gloves, compresses and towels with blood or ink, protective sleeves, used covers and barriers, disposable aprons and sheets — any material that has come into contact with the client's blood or fluids. Do NOT put: tattoo needles, cartridges, razor blades (all go in the sharps container), clean packaging, uncontaminated ink, or regular household waste. Is such a box mandatory for my tattoo studio?▾
Yes. Romanian health legislation (Ministry of Health Order 1226/2012 and DSP regulations) requires any unit that generates biological waste — including tattoo studios — to collect it in appropriate containers marked with the Biohazard symbol, to have an active contract with an authorized collection company, and to keep records of handovers. A regular cardboard box or a generic garbage bag is not compliant: visible Biohazard marking is mandatory, and DSP inspectors check all these aspects.
How long does a 10-liter box last me?▾
It depends on the workload. An individual artist generates approximately 1–2 liters of biological waste per session (gloves, compresses, barriers). With one session per day, the 10 L box lasts about 5–10 days; with 2–3 sessions per day, around 3–5 days; a studio with 3 artists can fill it in 2–3 days. Also pay attention to the weight limit: the maximum allowed weight of the box is 2.5 kg.

It is not opened, emptied, or reused — any subsequent handling of the contents is a contamination risk and a violation of sanitary norms. Proper hygiene means a new box with a new bag after each handover.
How do I choose between the 10-liter box and a larger one?▾
The 10 L version is suitable for individual artists, studios with 1–2 artists, or weekly collection — it takes up little space and is easy to handle. If you work in a studio with 3 or more artists or with intense daily activity, a larger capacity is justified because it needs to be changed less often; the downside is the required storage space. Regardless of size, the rule remains the same: Biohazard-marked container, inner bag, and handover to an authorized company.
