Guide & full description

Complete guide: Spirit Tattoo Thermal Paper 37cm*21.5cm

This is a long-format transfer paper (stencil) from Spirit, used to transfer a design onto the skin before tattooing. It can be used in two ways: printed with a thermal stencil printer or traced manually (freehand). The 37 x 21.5 cm format, longer than an A4 sheet, makes it especially suitable for large designs that would otherwise require joining multiple sheets. It is a salon consumable.

How to use

Choose your working method: thermal stencil printer or manual tracing.
For printer: set a custom paper size (approx. 370 x 215 mm) and if the printer has a fixed A4 tray, feed the sheet manually due to the length; respect the layer orientation indicated by the printer.
For manual tracing: secure the sheet, then draw the outline on the top layer with a pen or stylus, pressing firmly and evenly; the pigment transfers to the bottom layer.
Prepare the skin: shave the area, clean it, and degrease it.
Apply a stencil transfer solution (like green soap or stencil gel) to the skin.
Place the sheet with the printed side on the skin and press evenly for a few seconds without moving it.
Lift the sheet in a single motion, check the outline, and let it dry completely before starting the tattoo.

Tips from us

Take advantage of the extra length for large designs (partial sleeve, spine, thigh, chest panel) and thus avoid joining multiple sheets.
Before a complex printed design, do a test on a sheet to verify the correct layer orientation and line clarity.
Do not touch the pigment side with your fingers — skin oils can affect the transfer.
Keep the sheets flat in a dry, cool place; a bent or damp sheet results in a deformed stencil.
For manual feeding in the printer, set a custom paper size of approximately 370 x 215 mm.

Warning: Always work on shaved, clean, and degreased skin, and use each sheet only once — it is a single-use consumable. The stencil outline is temporary and must dry completely before tattooing. The product is not a medical device; follow the shop's hygiene and sterilization protocols.

Frequently asked questions

Which printers does it work with?▾

The product description states it is compatible with thermal stencil printers. Since the sheet is longer than A4, on printers with a fixed tray you will need to feed it manually, and in the settings you must select a custom format of approximately 370 x 215 mm. A typical thermal stencil printer used in shops is the Brother PocketJet, but check your printer's manual to see if it accepts manual feeding and extended format before ordering.

Can I use it without a printer, just manually?▾

Yes. Being a dual-purpose printer/manual paper, you can trace the design directly onto the top layer with a pen or stylus, pressing firmly and steadily; the pigment transfers to the bottom layer and you get a stencil. The manual method is useful for freehand, touch-ups, or when you don't have a printer at hand.

How large is it compared to an A4 sheet?▾

It is longer than A4: 37 cm in length, compared to approximately 29.7 cm for A4, and the width of 21.5 cm is very close to A4's 21 cm. You essentially gain length, which helps with large vertical designs (sleeve, spine, thigh) that you can transfer on a single sheet without joining multiple sheets.

How do I apply the stencil correctly on the skin and how long does it last?▾

Shave and clean the area, then degrease it. Apply a stencil transfer solution (like green soap or stencil gel), place the sheet with the printed side on the skin, press evenly for a few seconds without moving it, then lift it in a single motion. Let the outline dry completely before starting the tattoo. The stencil is temporary and wipes off the skin, so work carefully to avoid accidentally wiping it off during the process.

How should I store the sheets so they don't get damaged?▾

Keep them flat in a dry, cool place, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. The thermal and carbon layers are sensitive to heat, so storing near heat sources can degrade them. Do not touch the pigment side with your fingers and use each sheet only once.

Classic Paper Sheets Spirit 37 X 21.5cm The Original Spirit Tattoo Thermal Image Copier Paper is a quality tool for artists to have in the shop and is compatible with all thermal printers. This thermal stencil paper comes with four layers: The classic top tracing sheet which your image transfers onto The protective middle onion sheet The carbon backing sheet which transfers onto the top tracing sheet The yellow sheet that holds the original in place while using a copy machine Each box of Spirit ™ Original Tattoo Thermal Image Copier Paper comes with 100 sheets. Specifications: Thermal copier paper Compatible with all thermal printers Uses high-visibility purple dyes with a wax blend matrix; smooth and responsive to pressure Vegan-friendly; safe for most skin types Made in USA Price per one sheet The Spirit Long Transfer Sheet 37cm x 21.5cm is the versatile dual-compatible solution for extended-size designs, working with both thermal stencil printers and manual freehand tracing. Manufactured by Repro FX, this sheet offers approximately 75% more usable surface area than the standard A4 format (297mm vs 370mm length), enabling complete transfer of large designs without joining multiple sheets — partial sleeves, chest panels, thigh tattoos, or long vertical designs can be reproduced on a single sheet. Dual printer/manual compatibility is possible through intelligent layering: the Spirit Classic multi-layer system includes a thermal layer reactive to the print head's heat, plus a transferable pigment layer for manual tracing with a stylus. The classic Spirit violet pigment provides optimal visibility on skin, with sufficient contrast for all skin tones. When used with a thermal printer, the sheet produces photographically precise transfers of digital designs, with every detail faithfully reproduced. For manual tracing, the artist can trace complex designs across the extended surface without sacrificing line continuity. The 37cm x 21.5cm format is compatible with industry-standard thermal stencil printers (extended letter format), including Brother Pocket Jet, Spirit, and other professional models with manual feed. The pigment formula is dermatologically tested, non-toxic, and compatible with all stencil solutions. Individual packaging with anti-transfer protection. The premium choice for artists frequently working with large-format designs. Frequently Asked Questions
