Gum set + Allen key

Complete guide: Gum set + Allen key

A compact kit with the small parts that ensure the clean operation of a coil tattoo machine: 3 hex keys, 5 elastic bands, 5 needle bar grommets and 5 spring rubbers. The grommets absorb vibrations and keep the needle centered in the tube; the elastic bands keep the needle bar under tension; and the hex keys give you the right tool for the machine's screws. It's useful both for beginners setting up their first coil machine and for experienced artists who constantly need replacement consumables at their workstation.

How to use

1. Prepare the setup with gloves, on a clean surface, before starting the session.
2. Mount the needle bar grommet onto the armature bar pin, then attach the needle bar loop over it — the grommet absorbs vibrations and eliminates metal-on-metal contact.
3. Place the spring rubber in its position on the spring/armature assembly for additional dampening.
4. Stretch one elastic band (or two, as preferred) around the machine frame and over the needle bar to keep the bar pressed toward the back of the tube and the needle stable at the tip.
5. Use the appropriately sized hex key to tighten the machine's screws (for example at the tube vise), without overtightening.
6. Start the machine and check: the needle should run centered, without metallic noise and without lateral play in the tube.
7. At the end of the session, discard the used grommets and elastic bands, and clean and disinfect the hex keys — as they are reusable tools.

Tips from us

• Replace the grommets every session or as soon as they become soft, stiff, or cracked — a worn grommet lets the needle wobble sideways, and it shows directly in line quality.
• Always keep a few spare sets: they are among the cheapest consumables, but running out can stop you in the middle of a session.
• Don't overdo the number of elastic bands — too many increase friction on the needle bar and strain the mechanism; adjust until you get the tension that stabilizes the needle without braking the stroke.
• Keep the kit away from heat and direct light — rubber degrades over time even when not used.
• Keep the hex keys at the workstation, in the clean area, so you don't have to search for tools with gloves on during work.
• If the machine suddenly becomes noisy or the line "shakes", first check the grommets and elastic bands — most of the time the cause is there, not in the machine.
