Guide & full description
Complete guide: UV sterilizer with drawer
A sanitizing device with an ultraviolet (UV-C) lamp and a sliding drawer, where you keep your reusable instruments — metal grips, tweezers, scissors — in a protected environment free of germs and bacteria between uses. It is designed for tattoo studios and salons that want an extra layer of hygiene after cleaning and autoclaving, in a compact format of 20×40×24 cm that fits on a work table. The safety system automatically turns off the lamp when the drawer is opened, and the reflective interior distributes the radiation evenly over the surfaces of the instruments.
How to use
- Place the device on a stable surface and connect it to a standard outlet (power supply 220–240 V ~50 Hz).
- Clean, disinfect, and — for critical instruments — autoclave the instruments beforehand: the UV sterilizer is an extra layer of protection, not the first step of sanitization.
- Open the drawer and place the clean and dry instruments in a single layer, without overlapping, so that UV radiation directly reaches the surfaces.
- Push the drawer all the way in — the UV lamp only activates when properly closed.
- Press the start switch; the LED on the panel confirms that the device is powered.
- Leave the instruments under the lamp for a minimum of 1 hour — the minimum exposure time indicated by the manufacturer.
- If you pull out the drawer during operation, the lamp automatically turns off; when the drawer is reinserted, it restarts on its own without needing to press the main button again.
- After use, turn off the main switch so that the device does not remain powered.
Tips from us
- Use it as hygienic storage between sessions, not as a replacement for the autoclave — for instruments that come into contact with broken skin, thermal sterilization remains the mandatory step.
- Do not overload the drawer: UV radiation only acts on directly exposed surfaces, and areas shaded by other instruments are not sanitized.
- Place only clean and dry instruments in the drawer — residues of ink, Vaseline, or water block the radiation and reduce efficiency.
- Periodically clean the interior, including the reflective surfaces, with a damp cloth — never with substances containing acetone or alcohol.
- The UV lamp has a limited lifespan: even if it still lights up, the germicidal effect decreases over time, so replace it periodically according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- If the starter fails and needs to be replaced, turn off the device and unplug it before any intervention.
Frequently asked questions
Does it replace the autoclave? Is the UV sterilizer enough for my studio?▾
No, and it's important to understand the difference: the autoclave sterilizes at high temperatures and remains mandatory for reusable instruments that come into contact with broken skin or blood. The UV sterilizer is a complement — after autoclaving, it keeps your instruments in a protected environment free of germs and bacteria until the next use, under normal hygiene and cleanliness conditions. Think of it as an extra layer of protection and hygienic storage, not as a substitute for thermal sterilization.
Why doesn't the UV lamp turn on even though the device is plugged in?▾
The most common reason: the drawer is not pushed all the way in. The lamp only activates when the drawer is properly closed — this is the device's safety system, which protects you from direct exposure to radiation. Then check that the main switch is pressed and that the LED indicates the presence of voltage. If all these are in order and the lamp still doesn't turn on, the lamp or starter may be at fault — both are replaceable parts, but only change them with the device turned off and unplugged.
How long should I keep the instruments inside?▾
The manufacturer indicates a minimum exposure time of 1 hour to destroy germs and bacteria that appear in the workplace, under normal hygiene conditions. In practice, many artists also use it as continuous storage: autoclaved instruments stay in the drawer between sessions, and if you open the drawer to take an instrument, the lamp automatically turns off and restarts on its own when closed, without needing to restart the cycle manually.
How do I clean it and what maintenance does it require?▾
Maintenance is minimal. Clean the interior and exterior with a damp cloth — caution, without substances containing acetone or alcohol, which can damage the surfaces. Keep the reflective surfaces inside clean, as they distribute the radiation evenly over the instruments. Over time, the UV lamp and starter can wear out and need replacement — always with the device turned off and unplugged. There are no consumables to change with each use.
What instruments can I put in the drawer? Does it work for everything I use for tattooing?▾
It is suitable for reusable instruments with exposed surfaces: metal grips, tweezers, scissors, and similar accessories. Place them in a single layer, without overlapping, so that UV radiation directly reaches all surfaces — anything shaded is not sanitized. It is not useful for disposable consumables (needles, cartridges, barriers), which are discarded after each client, and it does not replace autoclaving for critical instruments.
Is it suitable for a small studio? What space and what outlet do I need?▾
Yes, it is a practical choice for small spaces: it measures 20×40×24 cm and weighs approximately 1.8 kg, so it fits on a work table or on a station shelf. It operates on 220–240 V ~50 Hz, meaning any standard outlet in Romania, without special installations. The single-drawer model offers a good balance between capacity and compact size — enough for the daily instruments of an artist or a studio with moderate volume.
