Guide & full description
Complete guide: Cheyenne Safety Cartridge Needle Magnum (M1)
Disposable needle cartridge from the Cheyenne Safety range, in Magnum (M1) configuration — needles arranged in two rows, typically used for shading and filling larger areas. The strong point of the range is the patented safety membrane, which prevents blood and ink from entering the grip, with tightness compliant with European standard EN 17169. The cartridges are manufactured in accordance with ISO 13485 medical standard, from stainless steel, come sterile packaged and are sold individually. They are aimed at artists working on cartridge systems who want hygiene and predictability at every session.
How to use
- Prepare your workspace: disinfect surfaces, apply protective barriers on the machine, grip and clip cord, and put on disposable gloves.
- Check the cartridge blister: it must be sealed, intact and within the expiration date. Damaged packaging means sterility is no longer guaranteed — do not use that cartridge.
- Remove the cartridge from the blister without touching the needle tip and attach it to the grip or machine with cartridge system until it locks firmly.
- Adjust the needle protrusion (how far they extend from the cartridge tip) from the grip, depending on your shading or filling technique.
- Dip the needles into the pigment cup and work with the skin stretched tight, in uniform motions — the magnum configuration is designed for covering surfaces, not for fine lines.
- When changing color, rinse the tip in dedicated rinse water and wipe it on a clean tissue, then continue.
- At the end of the session, remove the cartridge and dispose of it in the sharps container. Do not reuse it under any circumstances.
- Sanitize the reusable grip according to your procedure (cleaning, disinfection and sterilization if the grip is autoclavable) and dispose of all used barriers.
Tips from us
- Use the magnum for shading and filling; for outlines and fine details choose a liner cartridge — each configuration has its role.
- Open the blister only at the moment of use, not in advance — this maintains sterility until the client.
- Always have 1-2 spare cartridges ready for the session: if you accidentally touch the tip on a non-sterile surface, immediately switch to a new one.
- The safety membrane protects the grip from contamination, but does not replace protective barriers and gloves — continue using them all.
- Work with the skin well stretched: magnum needles deposit pigment evenly only on a flat surface, otherwise the result will be patchy.
- Since the price is per piece, you can order exactly what you need to test your configuration before stocking up.
Frequently asked questions
What does 'Magnum (M1)' mean and what is this cartridge used for?▾
M1 denotes a magnum configuration: needles are arranged in two rows, making them suitable for shading, gradients and filling larger surfaces with pigment. It is not a lining configuration — for outlines, use liner cartridges. If you frequently do shading or color on large areas, the magnum is your go-to tool.
Is it compatible with my tattoo machine?▾
The cartridge is part of the Cheyenne Safety range, developed for the Cheyenne cartridge system (Hawk line). To use it, you need a machine or grip with a cartridge clamping system. If you work on equipment other than Cheyenne, check your machine or grip specifications to see if they accept this type of cartridge before ordering — and if you are unsure, write to us and we will help you verify.
What does the safety membrane do and why does it matter?▾
The patented membrane inside the cartridge acts as a barrier: it prevents blood and ink from rising through the cartridge and entering the grip or machine. Its sealing meets the European standard EN 17169. Practically, it reduces the risk of cross-contamination between clients — one of the most important hygiene aspects in tattooing. However, it is still mandatory to use protective barriers and sanitize the grip after each session.
Can I sterilize and reuse the cartridge if I have used it a little?▾
No. The cartridge is single-use: it comes sterile packaged, and after use (or if the blister has been opened or damaged) it can no longer be brought to a sterile state in studio conditions. Reusing needles is a serious risk of infection and cross-contamination. After the session, dispose of the cartridge in the sharps container.
Is it suitable for beginners?▾
Yes, with a note. The cartridge system is generally more beginner-friendly than bar needles: setup is quick, and the membrane adds an extra safety step in hygiene. However, the magnum configuration requires correct skin stretching technique and uniform movements, so practice first on artificial skin until you gain control.
What do I check on the packaging before use and how do I store cartridges?▾
Before each use, check three things: the blister is sealed, the foil is not perforated or swollen, and the expiration date has not passed. If any of these are not in order, do not use the cartridge. Store cartridges in their original packaging, in a dry, clean place away from sunlight and moisture, and rotate stock so that you use older boxes first.
