Complete guide: Classic Tattoo Needles KWADRON RM

Kwadron RM (Round Magnum) long bar needles are shading needles in a classic format, with the curved magnum configuration arranged in a fan shape on two rows, welded onto a long bar. They are manufactured in Poland from 316L surgical steel, individually packaged and sterilized with EO gas, and are single-use. They are intended for artists working with coil machines or rotary machines with a grip and tube — the traditional setup preferred for shading, black and grey, portraits, and realism. The needle curvature allows for even ink distribution, with soft transitions and reduced skin trauma.

How to use

  1. Check the individual sterile packaging before opening: if it is punctured, wet, or damaged, do not use the needle.
  2. Prepare a magnum tube (flat tip) suitable for the needle configuration, pre-sterilized — sterilization of reusable equipment (grip, tube) is the artist's responsibility.
  3. With examination gloves, open the packaging from the bar end and remove the needle without touching the tips.
  4. Insert the long bar through the tube and secure it in the machine (armature bar for coil, or clamping system for rotary with grip); adjust the needle projection from the tube to approximately 1.5–2 mm.
  5. For shading, reference settings from Kwadron specifications are: longer stroke than for lining (3.5–4 mm) and voltage in the range of 7–10 V on a coil shader, with slower spring rebound and moderate speed from the contact screw.
  6. Start the machine and check the needle movement before touching the skin — the needle should slide evenly, without lateral vibrations in the tube.
  7. Work the shading with broad, steady motions; the Round Magnum curve aids fine transitions, including with grey wash for black and grey.
  8. At the end of the session, dispose of the needle in a sharps container, immediately disassemble and clean the reusable grip and tube, then sterilize them before the next use.

Tips from us

  • If you are just building your kit, start with 9RM and 11RM — according to the manufacturer, these cover most shading needs; add 7RM for fine details and 15RM for backgrounds.
  • Choose the needle diameter based on style: 0.25 mm (#8) for ultra-fine shading and delicate realism, 0.30 mm (#10) as a versatile standard, 0.35 mm (#12) for dense saturation and color packing.
  • Match the flat tube size exactly to the needle configuration — a tube with tight tolerances keeps the needle stable and prevents vibrations that muddy transitions.
  • The coil shader + RM long bar + grey wash combination is the classic setup for black and grey; the haptic control of the coil machine allows for fine adjustments of pressure and speed.
  • Store needles in their original sealed packaging, in a clean, dry place, to keep the sterile barrier intact until use.
  • If you work in parallel with pens and cartridges, note that the Kwadron needle is identical in quality in both formats — only the mounting differs, so you can alternate without changes in needle behavior.
Warning: Sterile, single-use product — never reuse or re-sterilize a needle, regardless of method. Do not use needles with compromised packaging. Unlike cartridges, long bar needles have no protective membrane, so proper sterilization of the reusable grip and tube (autoclaving) before each client is mandatory and falls under the artist's responsibility. Always work with gloves and protective barriers on equipment, and dispose of used needles exclusively in dedicated sharps containers, in accordance with hygiene standards for tattoo studios.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Kwadron RM long bar needles and RM cartridges?

The needle quality is identical: the same 316L surgical steel, the same polishing process, and the same quality controls. The difference is exclusively the mounting format — the long bar needle is used with a grip and tube on classic coil or rotary machines, while the cartridge has its own body with a membrane and mounts in a pen. The long bar offers direct haptic feedback and the traditional coil shader feel, while the cartridge offers quick changes and a safety membrane. The choice depends on your preference and experience.

What machines can I use these needles on? Do they work on pens?

Long bar needles are used with coil machines and rotary machines with a grip, mounted through the corresponding tube. They do not mount in pen-style cartridge systems — for those you need Kwadron RM cartridges, which use the same needle in a different format.

Are the needles sterile? Can I reuse them if working on the same client?

Each needle is individually packaged and sterilized with EO gas, but it is strictly single-use — used once and disposed of in a sharps container, even if the session was short. The reusable grip and tube must be cleaned and sterilized after each use; the needles themselves are never to be re-sterilized.

I'm a beginner — which RM configuration should I choose first?

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, 9RM and 11RM are the most versatile: 9RM offers good control on medium areas and details, while 11RM covers larger surfaces and broad transitions. Together they cover most shading needs, and later you can add 7RM for fine details and larger configurations for backgrounds. The range goes from 7RM up to 23RM and beyond.

What tube should I use with these needles?

A magnum tube with a flat tip, sized exactly for the needle configuration: medium flat tubes for 7RM–11RM and large flat tubes for 13RM–23RM. A properly fitted tube holds the needle stable, without lateral play, which directly impacts the quality of shading transitions.

What styles are Kwadron RM long bar needles suitable for?

Round Magnum is the reference configuration for shading: the fan-shaped curve distributes ink evenly, with soft transitions and reduced trauma. It is the classic choice for portraits, black and grey, and realism, especially combined with grey wash on a coil shader machine — the traditional setup many artists still prefer over modern pens.

Product description

Classic type needles Kwadron needles are undeniably the best needles ever produced. Each configuration is a combination between super-mega-sharp and elastic soldering precision and long needles of increased hardness. Each individual needle is perfect, being uniformly sharpened and ensuring the highest quality of work. The product is individually packaged and is for single use Material: Stainless steel Sterile and single-use packaged product. Kwadron RM (Round Magnum) long bar needles are the highest quality traditional curved magnum needles, designed for fluid shading with coil and rotary grip machines. The Round Magnum configuration arranges needles in a curved fan formation across two rows, welded to the long bar. The needle curvature allows uniform ink distribution with soft transitions and reduced trauma — the characteristic that made RM the world standard for quality shading. Manufactured in Poland from 316L surgical stainless steel with Kwadron's premium finish, these needles deliver world-class consistency and performance. The long bar mounts into the machine grip via corresponding tube. EO gas sterilization and individual packaging guarantee safety. Like all bar needles, sterilization responsibility for reusable equipment belongs to the artist. Available in configurations from 7RM to 23RM and above, these needles are the classic instrument for portraits, black and grey, and realism done with coil machines. Kwadron RM long bar offers the traditional feel of the coil shader — an experience many top artists prefer over modern pens. Kwadron long bar needles are manufactured with the same quality standard as cartridges — the same 316L steel, the same polishing process, the same quality controls. The difference is exclusively in the mounting format: long bar for grip and tube vs. cartridge body with membrane for pens. Artists working with coil machines particularly appreciate Kwadron's constant quality — every needle performs identically, eliminating variables that can affect work quality mid-session. Packages of 50 pieces offer excellent value for active studios. Frequently Asked Questions What advantage does a coil machine with Kwadron RM long bar offer over a pen with cartridge? A coil shader machine with Kwadron RM long bar offers: direct haptic feedback allowing exact penetration feel, superior stroke control through spring and contact screw adjustment, constant power without battery, and a classic shading feel that many top artists consider superior to modern pens. What tubes do you recommend for Kwadron RM long bar? For Kwadron RM long bar, use magnum (flat tip) tubes from surgical stainless steel. Tube size must exactly match the configuration: medium flat tubes for 7RM-11RM, and large flat tubes for 13RM-23RM. Premium tubes have tight tolerances ensuring needle stability and clean transitions without unwanted vibrations. Is Kwadron RM long bar better for portraits than RM cartridges? It is not necessarily better, but different. Kwadron RM long bar with a coil shader machine offers a haptic control and feeling that some artists prefer. RM cartridges with pens offer convenience, speed, and safety membrane. Kwadron needle quality is identical in both formats. The choice depends on personal preference and artist experience. What Kwadron RM long bar configuration is most versatile? The most versatile configurations are 9RM and 11RM — they cover most shading needs. 9RM offers excellent control for medium areas and details, 11RM is ideal for larger surfaces and wide transitions. Together, these two configurations satisfy 80% of shading needs. Add 7RM for fine details and 15RM for backgrounds. How do I adjust the coil shader machine for optimal shading with Kwadron RM? For optimal shading with Kwadron RM on a coil shader: set a longer stroke than for lining (3.5-4mm), adjust the contact screw for moderate speed, set voltage to 7-10V, and adjust the spring for slower rebound. The needle should extend 1.5-2mm from the tube. These adjustments produce a smooth, controlled shading motion. Are Kwadron RM long bar needles available in 0.25mm too? Yes, Kwadron RM long bar is available in needle diameters of 0.25mm (#8), 0.30mm (#10), and 0.35mm (#12). 0.25mm is ideal for ultra-fine shading and delicate realism with a coil machine. 0.30mm is the most versatile standard. 0.35mm is preferred for dense saturation and color packing with a shader machine. Does Kwadron RM long bar work well with grey wash? Excellently. The coil shader machine + Kwadron RM long bar + grey wash combination is the classic configuration for top black and grey work. The coil machine's haptic control allows very fine pressure and speed adjustments, and Kwadron needle quality ensures clean transitions with diluted ink. Many legendary black and grey artists use exactly this combination. How much do Kwadron RM long bar needles cost compared to cartridges? Kwadron RM long bar needles have a lower per-needle cost than equivalent cartridges, as they do not include the plastic cartridge body and membrane. However, total cost also includes tubes (reusable but with initial investment) and autoclave sterilization costs. Long-term, bar needles are more economical for high-volume studios. What maintenance does a coil shader machine need for optimal performance? A coil shader machine needs: cleaning and disinfection after every session, regular spring inspection (replace at signs of fatigue), contact screw lubrication, electrical connection checks, and coil inspection for overheating signs. A well-maintained machine delivers consistent performance for years. Invest in preventive maintenance. Can I alternate between Kwadron RM long bar and cartridges in the same session? Technically, you can use a coil machine with long bar needles and a pen with cartridges in the same session, alternating between them. However, this practice is less practical — it requires two machines prepared simultaneously and protective equipment for both. Most artists choose one system and use it consistently throughout the entire session.
