Guide & full description
Complete guide: Black RCA Adapter for COBRA
The RCA adapter for the Cobra tattoo machine is the original Ink Machines accessory that transforms the machine from an exclusively wireless tool into a dual-mode one, capable of also operating with a cable power supply. It connects to the Cobra machine via the same proprietary magnetic system used by the Powerpack, and on the output side provides a standard RCA port, compatible with any tattoo power supply using an RCA cable. It is useful for Cobra artists who want a backup solution for when the Powerpack runs out of charge, or who prefer the stability of a wired power supply during long sessions.
How to use
- Turn off the Cobra machine and disconnect any power source before attaching the adapter.
- Align the RCA adapter with the magnetic port on the Cobra machine — the connector automatically locks into place by magnetic force, no force needed.
- Connect a standard RCA tattoo cable to the RCA (female) port at the other end of the adapter; the cable is not included and must be purchased separately.
- Connect the other end of the RCA cable to a compatible tattoo power supply.
- Turn on the power supply and gradually adjust the voltage to the working value suitable for your needle and cartridge setup, without exceeding the machine's rated input limit (0-12V DC).
- Use the built-in swivel function of the adapter to freely rotate the machine and adjust the needle angle, without twisting the RCA cable.
- At the end of the session, first turn off the power supply, then detach the magnetic adapter from the machine.
- To switch back to wireless mode, detach the RCA adapter and attach the Powerpack onto the same magnetic port — switching between modes is instant, with no resets or additional settings.
Tips from us
- Choose a quality RCA cable with a metal connector and good shielding for a clean signal and no voltage drop.
- Do not use the RCA adapter and the Powerpack simultaneously — the Cobra machine has only one magnetic power port, so alternate them, don't combine them.
- Keep the adapter in a dry place and periodically check the magnetic contact and the RCA port for any signs of dirt or oxidation.
- For long sessions (8+ hours), a wired power supply with this adapter eliminates concerns about the Powerpack battery life.
- Keep the RCA adapter handy as a backup solution even if you normally use the Powerpack — it can save you if the battery dies mid-session.
- If you start with a Cobra machine purchased without a Powerpack, this adapter is exactly what you need to use it immediately with any existing RCA power supply in the studio.
Frequently asked questions
Why would I use the Cobra with a cable if the machine is wireless?▾
There are several practical scenarios where the RCA adapter is useful: as a backup solution when the Powerpack runs out of charge and you don't have another charged one; during very long sessions (8+ hours), where wired power eliminates battery life concerns; for artists who prefer the stability of constant voltage from a wired supply; as an initial budget option if you purchase the Cobra without a Powerpack and add wireless later; or while traveling, when you cannot rely on battery charging in unfamiliar locations.
What is the magnetic connector on the adapter?▾
It is Ink Machines' proprietary system used on the Cobra machine for power connection. Instead of a traditional RCA connector that physically inserts, the magnetic connector attaches through magnetic force — it self-aligns and locks instantly. Advantages include quick connect and disconnect, reduced mechanical wear on the connector, and clean detachment in case of accidental cable pull, without pulling the machine off the table.
Does the adapter include an RCA cable?▾
No, the RCA adapter for Cobra does not include an RCA cable — it only provides a magnetic connector at one end and an RCA (female) port at the other. The RCA cable is purchased separately; any standard tattoo RCA cable is compatible, provided it is good quality with a metal connector and proper shielding.
Can I use the RCA adapter and the Powerpack at the same time?▾
No. The Cobra machine has only one magnetic power port, so you can connect either the RCA adapter or the Powerpack, but not both simultaneously. Switching between modes is however instant — detach one magnetically and attach the other, without turning off the machine or changing any other settings.
What voltage does the adapter accept and what power supplies is it compatible with?▾
The adapter accepts an input voltage of 0-12V DC, the standard specification for the Cobra machine, compatible with most professional tattoo power supplies with RCA output. However, verify that your power supply respects this voltage range before connecting.
How do I maintain the RCA adapter to keep it functional in the long term?▾
Keep it dry and free of dust, periodically check the condition of the magnetic contact and the RCA port, and avoid liquids entering the connectors when cleaning the machine. Wipe external surfaces with a slightly damp cloth and a suitable disinfectant for electronic equipment, without immersing the adapter in liquid. A quality, well-fastened RCA cable reduces mechanical stress on the connector and extends its lifespan.
