Guide & full description
Complete guide: Piercing Tongs model 3
The Inox Piercing Model 3 Pliers are a professional tool made of surgical stainless steel, used for closing piercing rings — bringing the ring ends together to secure the captive bead or segment in place. It is complementary to Model 2 (opening pliers), and together they form the standard set for mounting circular jewelry: captive bead rings, segment rings, continuous rings, and circular barbells. It is intended for piercing studios and artists who work daily with this type of jewelry, as well as those who want a dedicated tool instead of regular pliers.
How to use
- Sterilize the pliers in an autoclave before first use and after each client, according to studio protocol.
- Position the curved tips (U-shaped / beak) on the outside of the piercing ring ends, exactly where they need to be brought together.
- Gently squeeze the handles — the spring mechanism brings the tips together and closes the ring ends, securing the captive bead or segment in place.
- Apply force gradually, not abruptly: fine pressure control prevents ring deformation or bead loss.
- Visually check that the bead or segment is properly secured and the ring has no play, then gently release the handles.
- After use, clean the pliers with water and enzymatic detergent to remove organic residues before the next sterilization.
Tips from us
- Use it together with Model 2 (opening pliers) — the two tools are complementary, not interchangeable: one opens the ring, the other closes it.
- Do not force the joint beyond the natural spring opening; excessive pressure can deform the tips or weaken the spring tension over time.
- Lubricate the joint after each autoclave sterilization cycle to maintain smooth mechanism movement.
- Store the pliers in sterile packaging or a clean, dry place between uses.
- Periodically check the tips for wear, corrosion, or loss of spring tension — these are signs the tool needs replacement.
- Do not replace this specialized tool with regular pliers — the profiled tips for piercing jewelry reduce the risk of slipping and scratching the jewelry.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is the ring closing pliers used for?▾
It is used to bring the ends of a piercing ring together, securing the captive bead or segment in place. This is the step that completes the jewelry assembly, after the ring has been opened with Model 2 pliers.
Do I need Model 2 pliers as well, or is this one enough?▾
You need both. Model 2 (opening) expands the ring to remove or insert the bead, while Model 3 (closing) brings the ends together to secure the bead. The mechanisms work in opposite directions — when squeezing the handles, Model 2 spreads the tips apart, and Model 3 brings them together — and they are designed to be used as a set.
How do I properly sterilize and maintain the pliers?▾
First clean it with water and enzymatic detergent to remove residues. Sterilize in an autoclave according to studio protocol. Lubricate the joint after sterilization to maintain smooth movement of the spring mechanism, then store it in sterile packaging or a clean, dry place until next use.
Is it compatible with all types of piercing rings?▾
Yes — the curved tips are profiled to fit different ring diameters and gauges, compatible with captive bead rings, segment rings, continuous rings, and circular barbells.
Can the tips damage the jewelry?▾
The tips are specially profiled and polished to minimize the risk of damage, but excessive force or sudden handling can leave marks, especially on jewelry made of soft materials. Apply pressure gradually and controlled.
Can I use regular pliers from a tool kit instead of this one?▾
It is not recommended. Regular pliers do not have tips profiled for piercing jewelry and may slip or damage the jewelry, with risk of injury. Specialized tools have tips precisely adapted for this type of maneuver.
